This is one of a handful of antique tools I have begun to inherit from my dad, which were passed to him from my grandfather. They all exhibit beautiful colors and textures, the remnants of decades of use. It's an eclectic collection and a bit ominous as they hang in the entry to my woodshop and studio. There's a handcrafted level, a meat clever and meat saw complete with "juice" in the patina from my grandfather's butcher shop, a two man tree saw from his orchard, an old school hand drill and many more artifacts of another era that feel oddly out of place in a fake plastic world. All are functional, we'll built with care and craftsmanship, though admittedly some do make me thankful for modern power tools. Being somewhat of a minimalist in a time of wild consumerism shooting these tools has reminded me of a quote I heard recently, "Use things and love people." Tools, things, possessions - are to make stuff with, and if they aren't used to make yourself and those closest to you better they loose all value. #minimalism #antique #tools #studiophotography #productphotography #shitonblack #usethingsandlovepeople #wellused #toolporn (at Portland, Oregon)
