Knowing Irene's love for dramatic pauses and edgy brooding, Shiv will allow themself to multitask while the two are conversing. They once tried to mimic Irene's theatrics when no one else was in the laundromat but quickly got embarrassed. It looked like this:

Despite also knowing Irene's abilities, Shiv will never tell her about their recurring nightmares. That business is between Shiv and the dead-eyed incubus that cursed them. Irene has her own hunts to worry about, let Shiv take care of their own in turn. If Irene is to ever find out why Shiv doesn't sleep at night, it's going to be through the hard way.

Upon discovering that Irene made them their emergency contact, Shiv updated their voicemail: "Hello, this is Kanta 'Shiv' Shah. I can't come to the phone right now but leave a message after the beep. ... Irene, if you're hearing this and its life/death, listen closely. If its mundane trouble, call Sammy! Kanta was one of Gemma's first fashion victims. Its wasn't unusual for them to arrive at training with a set of obscene nails Gemma painted and decorated. No, it did not come off no matter what Kanta did. They had paint chips and dents in their nails for years until it eventually grew out.

Shiv did their best to advocate for Gemma from afar. They'd offer abroad training opportunities that helped themself become a better hunter. Shiv then suggested to put Gemma's other skills outside of ferocity to work. The Brotherhood has no shortage of domestic work available; maybe she'd like a cute secretary summer internship. Unfortunately, all of their suggestions fell through and Shiv dropped the subject. Maybe she really does have to find her own way.

Shiv always tries to see the best in Gemma. But, between her being attached to the hip with Jameson, her strained relationship with those of her family still aligned with the Brotherhood and her emotional/arcane instability, its getting increasingly more difficult. It's not that Gemma is a witch; it was never about that. Its about being a better person, a better brother's keeper. Shiv is just disappointed. They're not angry yet. Gods help Gemma if it gets to the point of anger.

Kanta would regularly babysit the twins before leaving Port Leiry for Brotherhood training abroad. Would eat all of their unwanted vegetables when Adrian/Gael weren't looking. Definitely got scolded multiple times for throwing up Gabriel too close to the ceiling for comfort. Being a teen with abnormal human strength/appetite and handling small children is rough.

Though their letters were intentionally kept vague for confidentiality, Shiv would send Gabe an accompanying travel brochure and souvenir related to the location. They hope these letters were a source of comfort or inspiration but Shiv would understand if these were misinterpreted for showing off. But Gabe never complained so the letters and trinkets kept coming.

Shiv has already told Gabe that he's proud of him but they worry its not enough. Gabriel reminds Shiv too much of their younger self for comfort (with a mix of Reid Halstead in terms of being a 'golden boy' that's another can of worms to open later). Self-confidence beyond the hunt was definitely a sore spot for them back then and maybe applies to Gabe now. But, Shiv turned out fine! That means Gabe will also be fine! Right? Right?!

When they're not talking about work or hunting, Shiv and Sammy unironically bond over SpongeBob. They only recite inside jokes and bits from the first few seasons since Shiv has not seen any of the new episodes. Shiv told Sammy he looks like Normal (Round) SpongeBob once and is not sure if he took it well.

Knowing that Sammy has his hands full with both Brotherhood training and college work, Shiv has offered to babysit his younger siblings. Shiv does have experience with caring for small children, twins especially. Sammy has yet to take them on the offer but it still stands. Shiv's apartment is also open to Sammy should he need a place to sleep outside of home for whatever reason.

Shiv read Sammy's resume when he first applied for the Brotherhood trial period and is skeptical as to whether or not that boy actually knows karate. On paper he does know karate and has the credentials to prove it but it does not line up to the Sammy they know, the Sammy that makes dumb puns and has to dissociate at the park everyday. There's only one way to find out: Shiv has to fight Sammy one on one. Eventually. Shiv will either kick Sammy's ass or Sammy will send Shiv to the hospital. It will be a dreaded day to come.

Kanta's parents hated the Halsteads. Kalpana considered the Halsteads to be valor stealing bastards trying to turn the Brotherhood into a fraternity, prioritizing dick-measuring over the hunt. Asim saw the Halstead's overbearing sense of pride as an ultimate fatal flaw that will get everyone killed if not extinguished. Though their parents' opinion blemished young Kanta's first impressions and interactions with Reid, they were eventually proven wrong and warmed up to him.

Shiv can recall so many embarrassing stories from their training days, specifically ones where Reid's cockiness came back to bite him in the ass. Are these stories more exaggerated than what actually happened? Maybe. Just a wee bit.

Shiv did not know what happened to Reid until returning home and reviewing their father's casefiles, was completely shocked upon discovery. When you look up to someone for so long, you sometimes forget that he's not actually invincible. Out of the two of them, Shiv would have bet that the hunt would have taken them first. It'd be funny if it were anyone but Reid.

Shiv was fully expecting Aurelia to be more of a hard ass than she actually is upon first meeting. But, no, she's much more chill and communicative. Thank Gods.

Every year, Asim Shah sent Kennedy two flower bouquets and artisanal whiskey on the anniversary of her daughters' deaths as an extension of deep condolences. Shiv is very nervous to get it right this year.

Despite their difference in opinion, Aurelia is the last older hunter Shiv feels completely safe turning to. As close as Adrian is to the Shahs, Shiv knows too much about what he has done to his own family to completely trust him. He's too prone to emotion. Shiv knows for a fact that Aurelia can keep it together when shit hits the fan. She will watch their back, put a bullet between their eyes if AND ONLY IF its the very last option, the only course of action to complete the job.
