Hi everyone !  It’s been a minute since we’ve had one of these. I think most of you on the members end know what’s coming, and I’m sure plenty of you on the main have anticipated it, so to say it in plain words: new skeletons are coming ! I’m incredibly excited to show you guys everything I have in store, but I wanted to take a moment to go over the details, because I’m not approaching in this most strictly traditional way. 

Over the course of the next five weeks ( or so ! ) I will be releasing fourteen brand new skeletons, nine of which will be open for applications to new members only. Starting this Thursday ( 4/23 ), skeletons will be released in ‘mini batches’ coinciding with plot drops that will bring some pretty significant developments to our Blackrock residents. We’ll be starting with two open skeletons coming this Thursday following the plot drop. Current members will not be applying for the open skeletons.

Instead, our current members interested in taking up a second character will be invited to fill out what is, essentially, a quasi-OC form. This form will be open to current members only, and is a place to propose your OC idea in a much more casual setting than the application process. This form will be released to members via the Discord server on Thursday after the plot drop, and I will review submissions on a rolling basis ! 

Since things are starting to heat up ( & cool down ) in Blackrock, I’ve also made the executive decision to bring some more hands on deck to help me tackle things behind the scenes. I would very much like to welcome CHLOE an POSSUM to the admin team ! Chloe has been helping me behind the scenes these last few months, and I’m very excited that I’ve finally wrangled her into joining us in an official capacity. Her character will be posted on Thursday.

Finally – because I am terrible at surprises, but great at suspense – you can find the list of upcoming skeleton names under the cut ! As always, please don’t hesitate to send any questions my way.

Hello, everyone ! As announced on the group Discord earlier, our founder, Abby, has decided to step down entirely from her position as admin of Shiver, and will no longer be involved with this RP. To help keep the group going, Caroline will be joined by two brand new admins: Baylee & Malin !

One big update: we’ve decided to no longer feature cops as characters in the roleplay. This means that updates will be made to BASSWOOD, CHESTNUT & SPRUCE, as well as some of their connections. We've already discussed this with the relevant players, and ask for your patience as we solidify and implement the changes in the coming days !

Finally, we wish to comment on the RPC-wide conversation that’s been sparked, and the part that played out in our group. The behaviour exhibited is not something we stand for, as admins, players, or as a roleplay group. We are confident that together, we can all steer Shiver in a new direction, and the three of us are committed to making Shiver a safe place for players both old and new.

PLOT DROP 02: LIGHT’S OUT

It seems like all of Blackrock has packed itself into the confines of Pioneer Square, jostling and elbowing each other as they strain to see. On the stage stands Mayor Nook-Rossetti, flanked on one side by his beaming family, and the other the proud Harvestfest planning committee. This is a year-long project in the making, the mayor starts, and he can say with the utmost pride and gratitude that it has been a success. The crowd, beckoned by the mayor’s open arms and wide smile, howls with glee. 

But – Harvestfest can’t yet be complete. Of all the events and all the ceremonies that have taken place these last few days, none is quite so well attended, no so controversial, as the Welcoming of the Wolves. Here, Mayor Nook brings out the lanterns and the cornucopias, welcomes town leaders to the stage – farmers and police officers, park rangers and shop owners – to help in beckoning in the change of seasons.

He doesn’t make it that far. Nook has hardly lifted the first ear of corn before, in a blink-brief moment, the Square is plunged into darkness. Miles away on the Whitegrass property, hosting the last few hours of rides and games, the same thing happens. Music cuts short. Lights go out. Panic ensues. 

No one’s quite sure how long the power stays out. Some will say ten minutes, maybe, others maintain it was close to an hour. Electricians on site immediately following the power outage say they can find no reason why the lights went out in Pioneer Square or the rides all stopped on the Whitegrass land. Not that anyone has much attention to give the mayor’s placating statements when the smoke clears. 

At the edge of Pioneer Square SAM MEHTA and MILO WHITEGRASS stand shaken, bruises and cuts already blooming. The Whitegrass land takes longer to get back up and running, but when it does, HUTCH BAKER and EVAN CZARNECKI are sporting similar injuries. Both parties are shaken and confused, unsure how they arrived at where they were found. 

No one even notices Jacob Saterlee (NPC), aged 14, has all but vanished from thin air.

TIMESTAMP: November 17th – November 19th

TLDR: at the closing Harvestfest ceremony, the power is cut both in Pioneer Square and on the Whitegrass property, including all rides and games. It’s unclear how long it stays out in both locations, only that Pioneer Square is restored before the Whitegrass land. When the smoke clears and panic dies down, FOUR PLAYABLE CHARACTERS have been found with various light injuries, confused and disoriented about what happened to them during the commotion. In the midst of the chaos, a child has also gone missing.

With this post, our December to Remember event has officially begun !! A quick reminder that this event will run for ONE WEEK, until June 15th at 12pm EST. At this time please pause all non-event related threads. Be sure to tag all starters with #shiverevent for this week.

EVENT 02: DECEMBER TO REMEMBER

As the temperature has dropped significantly, so too has the morale of Blackrock. A time that is generally spent with family and friends has shifted into something much more heartbreaking. The Whitegrass family will not stand for that, not when Winter is their favorite season.

Every year, the Whitegrass family hosts a “December to Remember” party out of their old family barn. But to call the barn old is doing it a disservice, not when Mrs Whitegrass is involved. The family, as it always has, has gone above and beyond in decorating to the theme of the party. A true tribute to the winter season, and the holidays that it brings. This year is no different, no matter the terrors the outside world may bring. The Whitegrass’s have plowed on through, sending out tasteful invites to the whole town for the first Saturday in December.

But there are some amendments this year. The largest of these is printed in a fine, dark font on the invite. A Vigil for Jacob, a moment of silence to start the event as the town mourns the loss of one of their own. The Whitegrass family knows their audience, and after the disaster that was Harvestfest, they are eager to restore their reputation.

Despite some hesitation, the party will go forward as it always will, the Blackrock PD coming to stand guard in order to soothe the general population.

OOC INFORMATION

Our second event will start MONDAY, JUNE 8TH at 12 PM EST. The event is currently scheduled to run for ONE WEEK, but the end of the event will simply mean the end of new event threads. While the event is going on we ask that you pause all non-event related threads and that you tag any event starters with #shiverevent. You may want to use a December to Remember tag on your blog, but it is not required!

The event will span a 24 hour in-game day, and will run as follows:

In the morning (8am-12pm), VOLUNTEERS are asked to come help set up the barn for the evening's party.

In the afternoon (3pm-5pm), the Vigil for Jacob will be held.

In the late afternoon to evening (5pm-1am), the party itself will start.

There are many opportunities for your character to help with the event if you would like! Alongside helping to get the barn ready, there are positions such as making buffet style food or DJing or performing that need filling. If you have a specific idea or would like help brainstorming, please come talk to us!
