December passes in the blink of an eye, but winter still has its claws in Blackrock. The wolves roam the valley, no longer caught in their two-legged trappings – holiday cheer little more than a distant memory, at best; replaced instead with the strange, sweet scent of fresh snow.
Fireworks light up the valley on New Year’s Eve, and the human residents wake to a new year on January 1st, 2020, in a world that looks much the same as it did the night before: frost has laced itself across windowpanes, snow is still falling from a heavy sky, and the world will be cold for a few months yet.
You are now welcome to write threads dated 2020 – just don’t write past March 14th, 2020 !
To go with this update, we’ve created a voluntary writing task! Here are our prompts / suggested themes to reflect on and answer – feel free to mix and match and get creative with the medium:
How does your character explain that they’re gone for the duration of winter? Have there been any particularly bad excuses throughout the years, or close calls? Do they have a good one they return to?
Write out a holiday or New Year’s Eve of a past year; human or not, good or bad. This can be collaborative, or a self-para.
Does your character have any holiday traditions? Something passed down through the family, or something they started on their own?
What resolutions does your character have for the new year? Is there anything that they want to change, any regrets they have from the past year? Anything they hope to improve?
Lastly, post your contributions with the tag #shivertask !
