Paul uses the analogy of the Roman soldier’s footwear to tell us about a piece of armour God has given to us so that we can fight the spiritual battle we are in- Feet Shod With the Gospel of Peace. (Ephesians 6:15) We are to be prepared for battle by having our shoes on, the shoes of the gospel of peace. Imagine a fully armed soldier but his feet are completely bare. He could run into real trouble in the heat of battle. A soldier’s shoes had thickened soles and nail-like cleats which equipped him to quickly advance over almost any terrain. For us to ‘put on’ the Gospel shoes of peace means that we ready at all times to take the Good News of God’s peace to a world that is in turmoil. It is to have a mindset of readiness to go into all the world and to share the gospel.
