Yoshioka Futaba is a 16-year-old high school student who try to fit in with her female friends by acting "unfeminine" beacuse of that she feels her life is uninteresting. Her life will take a dractic turn when her first love Tanaka Kou returns! He disappeared years ago in middle school, Yoshioka has all the fond memories they shared together but everything has changed now!
Okay so, Ao Haru Ride follows Futaba as she reaches for true friendship and love (all while trying her best to stray true to herself). I really like this manga, is a shojo and you know how all the manga shojo is like... the same and this has the same cliché but hits different. So lets begin.
Ao Haru Ride, like i told you, hits different. It's realistic. Futaba (like most of the shojo protagonist) doesn't have a major lack of social skills, she is just looking for the right way to do friends and trying to be herself. Kou, i think had the best and depth development; the final Kou is so cute and sweet but I would have liked to see more the change between the serious and grumpy Kou and the serious and sweet Kou. THE LOVE BETWEEN THESE TWO OHMYGOD. Is so damn cute, like fuck. Why can't real love be this good and honest!
The others characters, oh they are so cute and the cute. All little moments they have made so fond of them! Yuuri, Murao, Kominato, Tanaka-sensei and the rest, I'd have liked to see more of them.
Talking about the the whole "love triangle" thing, i didn't like it. Althought is kind of realistic (Futaba accepting Touma bc she is trying to forget her feelings towards Kou) I think was a bit too much, very forced. Although, I really like Touma, he's a good boy<3
The art is fucking gorgeous, the expressions, the characters, everything is very eye pleasing and you just contemplate! (If you want to, please search the official art/illustrations). If I wanted to describe my experience with this manga in one word is "enjoyment". This manga made me contemplate so many things (real life romance for example), made me crash and broke into tears. I really enjoyed this manga. I want to see more of this manga!! More of the characters, more of everything! More of the after school life!
"There are also heart wrenching scenes that actually made me contemplate my own life decisions. When the manga hits you that hard, you know this shit's good. There are some cliches in this, tbh there actually cute cliches, not annoying cute but something as light as facial expressions, reactions, thoughts, and awkward situations.
