omg shommy mention! though the fic might be scrapped, i was wondering if you might share some thoughts on the shommy dynamic :) my favorite rarepair fr

Of course!! Granted I’m fairly new to the ship so I may not be the best person to ask about shommy, but!

When I first started seeing the spommy signs everywhere I went through all the smosh channels looking for videos where they were both featured, and around the same time, I read this fic by @lorelilly and it got me thinking about the Shayne/Spencer/Tommy dynamic. So when I got around to rewatching Shayne’s birthday reddit stories with spommy as the guests, it unlocked the final piece in my brain and I was like ‘they’re all boyfriends omg.’

However, if you scoot Spencer outta there, I feel like they’re always laughing at each other’s jokes — a lot of the time before anyone else does — they seem really supportive of each other, and they share a fuckload of soft looks (which is like THE way to get me on board with a ship.)

For the more interpretative parts (I guess lol) I feel like Shayne seems very levelheaded whereas Tommy has a more over the top persona, so they kinda balance each other out. They’ve got similar interests but are different enough that they can still learn new things about each other and be genuinely receptive to what the other has to offer. (They’re also both beautiful men, so part of it probably does come from just wanting to play with my dolls lmao.)

SSG definitely just made it more obvious to me, made it settle somewhere more solid. I mean come on:

In the fic (it was going to be based on Bare: a Pop Opera) they were catholic boarding school roommates who were in a secret relationship: Tommy, a theater kid who’s only popular in his circle, and Shayne a jock and the valedictorian who is universally loved and shitting his pants bc he’s queer. It was going to be a rough, angsty one, mainly focused on Shayne coming to terms with his sexuality and affection for Tommy who is desperate to come out and be himself but holds back for Shayne. If you’re familiar with the musical, it was NOT going to have the same ending, and if you’re not familiar with it and enjoy musicals, you should def give it a listen (be sure to look up the trigger warnings if you’re sensitive to anything!!)

I haven’t sunk as much time staring into the middle distance thinking about them as I have with other smosh ships, so I imagine my feelings about their dynamic will only continue to develop lol — I hope this was close to what you were hoping for!! Thank you for letting me ramble! <3
