Hyunjae sighs inwardly, nervously jogging his right leg out of habit while his elbows were perched against his desk, phone nestled on both of his hands. His thumb was slowly scrolling downwards across the screen of his phone, eyes narrowing distressingly at the various bios presented in a shortlist of profiles displayed in the opened app. He almost let out a laugh, most probably out of pity for himself, and his eyebrows were creased as he read one bio of a girl, wearing a ridiculously low-cut sleeveless shirt in her profile picture, saying i love anal and Hyunjae wanted to cry.
It was around nine in the evening, his room dimly lit with the desk lamp next to him, and his roommate was taking his time in the shower. He didn't even know why he had to do this in the first place, and he wonders if he’s being too nice about this. Apparently, his friends dared him to sign up for some chatting app to start a flirty conversation with someone he doesn't know, and Hyunjae considers for a moment if he really should get new friends--but perhaps meeting someone here can give him a break from his mundane life after all, and he was just probably being looked after by his friends.
Fortunately, his eyes landed upon a relatively normal bio of a girl, and he didn’t know if he should be happy or start being a nervous wreck about it. He swallowed thickly, not wanting to think of anything more as he tapped on the profile of the girl. Hyunjae didn’t really have high standards when it comes to the opposite gender, but he thought this person was more than enough for him to talk to. He let out a deep breath, the jogging of his leg picking up its pace as he began to type heedlessly, wanting to get this over with more than anything.
He sent over a short hey :) and immediately locked his phone shut and placed it face down on the table. He felt like he wanted to take it back and retreat to Antarctica or some place where people can’t reach him, but that obviously wasn’t going to happen. Sighing for the nth time that night, he rested his head on the back of his chair, trying his best to calmly wait for a response.
