Regency dress sewing update: I've decided on a style and the pieces, and have now bought the fabrics!

Stylistically, I've gone for the years 1795–1800 as The Thing will be an 1700s event, and also because I love antique references. (Besides, that way, I also get to show more of my décolleté, so everybody wins.)

The pieces I'm going to create are a shift, petticoat, corset (yes, it's called corset), short robe, and a classic Regency gown (robe à l'Anglaise).

In the last piece I've deviated from the historical example in the Snowshill Manor collection, firstly, because I want to, and secondly, because the catalogue text pointed out that the round dress specifically was an older design altered to fit the new style.

Right now, i'm wondering whether a petticoat will be too much considering I'm going to layer the short robe over the morning dress. Especially since the morning dress is going to be a light linen, as opposed to the original muslin. But we'll see, I suppose (and who knows if I manage to finish all the pieces in time anyway).

All the other pièces are going to be made out of a very light batiste (white for the undergarments, and mint green for the short robe).

Instead of a chemisette, I'm going to go with the other historically accurate option, a scarf. I happen to have a beautiful silk scarf that picks up all the tones in my colour scheme, so I'm hoping it'll be a good match (and not too matchy-matchy).

Hair-wise, I'm going with a white silk headscarf to match other antiquity-inspired styles of the time. For this, I'm using another lucky find from my scarf drawer (a Chinese family friend gifted me this so long ago, I had virtually forgotten its existence): a white silk scarf with a couple of flowers painted on.

Lastly, shoes! I despise ballerinas, so I was over the moon to discover that the late 1790s specifically favoured a more pointy style. Several European shoe companies do a very similar design. Though not all ship to where I am, I got lucky and found a used suede pair that will go nicely with my look, I think. Fingers crossed they arrive in time.
