Hi!

I am going to a burlesque party with a “circus” theme in a couple of weeks, so I felt the need to make my costume. Bloomers, a peplum top and a ruff-collar / cuffs. My inspiration was old trapeze acrobats and vintage clowns.  So I did some research and tried to make these ruff-cuffs, just to get a feeling of it. The technique was quite simple, just a bit of a hassle with all the lengths of ribbon. This on the picture is only half my wrist and it was all the yellow ribbon I had. So the collar will have many meters of ribbon.

Hi! 

When my patience run out I sit down and hand sew my gloves. Not that I like sewing my gloves by hand, because I really don’t, but sometimes you cancel out the negative feelings by just doing something you dislike.  I have not prioretised these so I haven’t gotten very far. This is the last thing on the list of stuff I need to get done before thursday, but sometimes you need a break, and even then you have to work.  stress-week of 2015 keeps going..

Here is the Victorian top on me, with a corset underneath. The top-right picture is the fit as it is, the bottom-left is the amount I can take it in. So maybe I laced harder this time or the modell wasn’t as fitted as I thought it would be. 

Luckily, the pattern is easy to take in so I don’t think it will be that hard. 

Oh and the while things hanging are the excess bits from the hook-loop ribbons. I just haven’t cut it off yet. 

And I haven’t attached the arms yet because they need to be taken in too, as you can see by the armour like appearance on the pictures. 

It is coming together really nicely.

Hi! 

I have now sewn all the pieces for my Victorian top together and am attaching the hooks in front. I decided to add the hooks before the lining because I think I need to take it in a bit, and it will be easier for me to get it right with the hooks in place. 

This is actually the first time I am working with hooks pre-attached to a ribbon like the white you see in the picture. It really is time saving to skip the step about adding all the individual hooks and loops by hand. It was a little more tricky doing it with a normal foot on the sewing machine, should change to a zipper-foot next time, but other than that, is was okay easy. Now I can wear it!

Where did Yuuki go?

Hello again. Here is a text-post.  I don’t know if any of you noticed, but I haven’t posted about any progress for my Yuuki cosplay in a while. Maybe you have put two and two together, but I will say it straight out. I may have taken too much on my plate.  My goal was to have both CC from Code Geas and Yuuki from Sword Art Online done to July 23. But when I started working on it I noticed the extreme time consumption and building expenses vs the time and money I had to spend on cosplay were not where I wanted it to be. I got really stressed and decided to drop Yuuki for now and focus on CC for now.  I can see that I wont have the time to finish Yuuki if I finish CC before the con (hopefully) BUT! I will still make her. I have plans on wearing her to a con in October so don’t worry! Now I will have more time to work on her and make her super awsome!  So now you know where Yuuki went. . In my closet, in a bag. haha

Hi! A friend of mine asked if I could make a dress for her, and I said yes... Why not add more work when you have only 3 weeks left until the con? And I haven’t even started assembling my C.C jacket. Good life choices!

Nah, it will be alright, I wont work more on the dress until C.C is done, But I started on it enough to feel okay with leaving it for now.  Adventures in the land of sewing xoxo - S

Hi!  I borrowed this pattern from a friend the other day. It’s from www.Trulytvictorian.com and they say it is a historically correct pattern. I don’t know about that fact but it surely looks very historical.

I have wanted something like a formal steampunk outfit for a while and when I found this I thought it would be perfect for a first try at something worn over a corset!  In the pattern you have three choises, 1) the deep neckline or the high collar, 2) the pointed bottom with pointed tail or the all-round and straight bottom. 3) long sleves or short puffy sleves. I choose a combination with the high collar, the pointed bottom and the long sleves. The fabric will be pale beige/brown and really sturdy to fit nicely over the corset. No flappy fit here! I choose the brown/beige base for it to fit the more darkish brown shades on the skirt.  And.. I kind of already started on it, oops.  xoxo - S

Hi! When I don’t feel like working by the sewing machine or on the floor with making patterns, I just sit and do needlework. This is the latest one, that I finished two days ago. Often when I do these I take a stencil from google and translate it on to a very opaque fabric. I don’t have any training in embrodery so I bet I can do the filling in much better, but I am mainly doing this for relaxation. It isn’t that serious. But it ended up really pretty this time! 

I like to add sea-seed pearls to my designs to make them more three-dimensional looking. Thou I added some more pearls after I took the finished picture.  So I don’t always do cosplay stuff ;)
