Sneak Peak
"Kill them," I heard my own voice break the deafening silence that closed in on us. I stared into darkness; only my vision was clouded, as if this was only a dream. I stared directly at someone who stood before me, their face serious and emotionless. "I want them dead," I could hear my own hate dripping from every word I spoke. I turned my head to my right, staring into the never-ending darkness that stretched out before me. The World of Shadows. The darkness swirled around as if it were alive; seemingly endless in every direction, however, pulsing with life. "As you wish," the young man with black hair responded. I turned around as the sound of a cough echoed over to me. The bright red hair caught my attention first. I peered at the hooded figure, trying to see past the shadows that were cast over his face. As if sensing my stare, his head shot up and he quickly brushed his bright red hair into the hoodie of his giant black coat. I turned away, unable to bother myself with the identity of a red-headed man. I looked up as the man I had first spoken to opened a portal; the darkness shaping into a large oval, swirling the shadows into the centre. The shadows flicked everywhere, trying to latch onto the nearest thing it could, to devour the emotions and souls of anything it clung to. Only that's why we are able to manipulate the shadows. We work with them. We have no hearts. No souls. No emotions. We are the shadows itself. We are the darkness. I watched as he stepped into the portal; his figure slowly consumed by the shadows, and finally disappearing, just as my vision itself begins to falter, and my dream begins to fold away. I hear the slight muffled sound of words; but it's too late. I have already fallen out of my dreams.
The sound of whispered voices echoed in my mind; tumbling through my sleeping thoughts and shocking me awake. My eyes flung open, and I almost immediately regretted doing so. The sunlight stabbed my eyes; and I had to squint for a moment before my eyes adjusted. Something loomed over me; blotting out the sun as they moved above my head. I peered at the mysterious figure that stared down at me; taking in two magnificent blue eyes, a small and straight nose, thin but perfect lips and a small square jaw. All framed with his blindingly silver hair. I shot up, pushing out of the way as I jumped up, my heart racing. It occurred to me later that I did not feel any fear despite my situation. I turned around and faced him. Well. Them. There were three of them; the by who was now staring questioningly at me, a small and skinny girl with pale blue hair and icy-blue eyes, and finally another boy with short brown spiky hair and large green eyes. My breathing quickened, and I saw something flash in the corner of my eyes, and almost yelped as something cold and hard was now clenched in my fist. I saw the three of them turn their gazes to my fist, however I didn't dare to avert my gaze. The boy with the silver hair that slightly fell into his eyes took a step closer towards me, his hands raised to suggest he meant me no harm. I still took a step back. He froze, and then spoke; his voice as sweet as honey. "Who are you?" he asks gently, his hands still in the air. I stare at him, refusing to answer him. I have no idea who these people are, or where I am. The realisation that I don't know where I am hits me, and my knees almost give way. I allow myself to look away for a second, taking in my surroundings. I'm surrounded by sand, and behind the curious trio is a small wooden shack surrounded by coconut trees. It's against a mountain, which looms overhead. I hear the gentle sounds of the ocean lapping against the beach behind me, and to my right I see small wooden boat ramp with small wooden boats tied to it. I move my right hand, and look down at the large silver and golden weapon that now sat in my hand. I gasped; shocked as to how I got it, and intrigued at its deadly beauty. The hilt of the blade was silver, which glinted in the sunlight. The blade was a confusing twists of both silver and golden metal strips, forming the deadly weapon. I turned my gaze back on the trio, cautious of their every movement. "Who are you?" The brown-headed boy asks me again, and I turn my gaze onto him. I open my mouth to speak, to tell him who I am. Only no words come out. Who am I? I mentally asked myself, the simplicity of the question suddenly becoming a complicated riddle. I looked down at the sand, shocked. I couldn't answer them; not because I couldn't speak, but because I genuinely did not know who I was. "I..." I began, trying to understand. "I don't know," I breathed. I looked up at them, staring into their now shocked faces. The blue haired girl was the first to speak up. "Well do you know where you're going? How you got here? Do you have anywhere to go?" She asked. Her questions confused me, and I looked away from her, my head pounding. I shook my head slightly. "Well..." Silver-hairs voice spoke up. "We were just headed home. You could come with us if you want." I look at him, surprised. Is he trying to help me? "Y-yes," I stutter, mentally slapping myself. Stuttering? "Thankyou" I added on. He nodded to me, and pointed to the girl on his right. "Okay, this is Kiara," she smiled at me, revealing a flash of straight white teeth. He then points at the brown-headed boy, "This is Sebastian," he only nods his head at me. He then points at himself, "And I'm Raine," and his smile grows. He waves for me to follow as he turns and begins to walk away. I take a step after him, and almost fall to the floor as a sudden wave of dizziness overwhelms me. My breathing suddenly falters, and my whole body begins to shake. I stare at Raine as he turns back around, and my knees finally give way. I fell to the floor, my vision blotting with colourful dots. I squeeze my eyes shut as my brain suddenly begins to shoot messages of pain all throughout my body. I gasp as the pain only increases, and I fall to the ground, curled up in a ball. I watched as a pair of feet came into my vision, and everything moved as I was pushed onto my back. I can hardly see Raines face nor hear his voice. Everything is so distant. I let the pain take me away, sinking into the darkness; strangely comforted by the thickening tendrils of evil.
