Dive is really only needed to enter Sootopolis City for the first time and for your first encounter with Groudon. Other than that the storyline doesn't really use it. You need Dive to get a few pokemon like Chinchou and Relicanth, and to get Ho-oh after you get the National Dex. I may have missed something but have a good time playing Omega Ruby ^^

Thank you so much for this information! It seems like I’ll be able to get my friend to play the parts with Dive for me, so I’m unlikely to get stuck as I feared :D
