36. In your opinion, what makes a good anime?

Okay, strap in. I’m about to throw out a whole mess load of opinion.

One of the first things I look at is the animation. I’m not necessarily looking for it to be good, but it has to be fluid/unique enough that I want to actually watch it. Basically, if I can’t tell the difference between this anime and another, I’m less likely to watch it, because I want the style to be, well, it’s own. But, as with most things, this is a generality not a rule. There’s plenty of stuff I like that is visually generic/visually similar to another work, but if seeing my preferences, my favorites like to be a bit more visually dynamic/original. (Mononoke, Trapeze, Tsuritama, Tekkon Kinkreet, Kaiji, Ergo Proxy) I have a boatload of respect for a lot of Studio 4degreesC stuff  for the same reason.

Another thing is how original the story is. I don’t mean in terms of how many genres the anime can pack into one show, because that’s more of a marketing ploy, the way I see it. I want the story to be able to stand out, because that’s what keeps me interested. I’ve seen a lot of anime that honestly don’t interest me because it looks just like anime X or anime Y. It doesn’t feel artistic enough to me, it feels like marketing (but obviously this doesn’t apply to everything that seems similar) Though my preference lies in either psychological stuff or comedies

Obviously, these things are just my opinion etc etc If you think it’s fun, then watch it.
