At SHOT 2015 we took a look at one of the Faxon ARAK-21’s on display. The ARAK name combines AR and AK as it uses an AR lower with an AK style long-stroke piston upper. The ARAK series has a folding side charging handle in the forward position of the handguard like the old roller-delayed H&K’s. Unlike the H&K’s it can be pulled out and moved to either side of the weapon. I’ve had the opportunity…

Sun Devil Adjustable Drop in Gas System
Sun Devil Adjustable Drop in Gas System
One solution to some AR gas woes is Sun Devil’s new Adjustable Drop in Gas System (ADIGS). Essentially it is a gas adjustable carrier key. The key can be purchased separately for your AR10/AR15 or as a complete bolt carrier group. I took these photos when I visited their booth at the Industry Day at the Range this past SHOT Show. The cutaway shows the simplicity in design. To test the system, I’d…

Masterpiece Arms MPAR Pistol
Masterpiece Arms MPAR Pistol
Coming full circle, the Australian Leader T2 series was based on the American ArmaLite AR-18; Masterpiece Arms introduced the MPAR a few years ago and is the first time the Australian designed firearm has been made in the USA.
The most obvious changes, from Charles St George’s Leader series, includes removing the carry handle for a Picatinny optics rail, moving the charging handle back from the…

YHM Sidewinder Suppressors

YHM had a large amount of accessories with them at SHOT Show. When asked what was new, the pistol caliber Sidewinder (9mm, .40, .45) suppressor was the object pulled out. The outer tube is 6061 aluminum, the baffle mono-core is 7075 aluminum, leaving the adapter, Nielsen sleeve, blast baffle, and rear cap in 17-4ph (precipitation hardened) stainless steel.
The suppressor disassembles for cleaning and comes with a heat resistant pouch that can be used to protect the hand while removing the hot silencer from the firearm. More interestingly, the Sidewinder has 12 index points that allow you to adjust point of impact while remaining attached to the host firearm. I personally haven’t needed this ability but it is an interesting option for those that have found this to be an issue.

YHM also introduced some new AR15 pistols in various calibers and barrel lengths featuring their KeyMod handguards.

Sun Devil AR15 Test Trigger Housing
At SHOT Show Sun Devil had a row of different brand triggers displayed. At first I was confused because I thought they were showing their trigger vs other brands, no, it is the housing itself they were displaying.
A rubber stop keeps from wearing the hammer and no damage is done to an actual receiver. Kept upright by an attached bipod, the display is simple and could be helpful in many gunshops…
