Renowned by his peers for tearout live sets which comprise of mostly his own productions, Shotem has given us a bit of his time to record an exclusive mix & answer a few questions to see what makes him tick. Firstly, tell us who you are and a little bit about yourself.
Paul Campion, 26 years old, DJ and producer from Hartlepool.
How did you first get into making music?
Well I guess I first started making music about 6 or 7 years ago in a couple of metal bands playing local shows, but started my own productions about 4 years ago.
Did you have a main goal when you first set out? Whether it be to get a release or just to make tunes that you enjoy playing out?
I've always though it would be cool to get signed but I guess I just want people to enjoy my music and have a good time when I'm playing.
Do you have a preference between DJing & producing?
Ermmm not really but having one without the other is when I'll tend to get easily distracted, but if I've got my computer working and my decks set up I'll tend to go back and forward from one to the other.
What was the drive behind starting up EYEZDOWN?
EYEZDOWN came from wanting to start a night in Hartlepool with my fellow DJ White Smurf for the small but loyal dubstep crowd we have and hopefully get some people in that haven't heard the music before or people that have been a bit indecisive about it.
Having seen you play out a number of times, I can vouch that you always play heavyweight sets, but what are your favourite 3 tunes to drop when you’re in the mix?
Eases this is a hard one, I'd have to say...
1. The kraken by woodman (kraken recordings)
That's my favourite tune of all time
(Haven't stopped playin it in my sets since you hooked me up)
Outside of writing music/DJing what do you get up to?
Not been up to much now days since I got my new computer my day consists of wake bake cups of tea tunes, with the odd night out, been thinking about getting a bmx again so if anyone's got some spare parts holla at me haha
Tell us something that not many people know about yourself?
What have you got planned for the rest of this year?
Tunes, shows, EYEZDOWN merch then hopefully move out of hartlepool and relocation to a city where the dubstep scene is better established.
