There were very few things that Sara was afraid of since being plucked out of the sea and trained by the League of Assassins. There were moments though, moments where she could feel the sweat on her brow form because of nerves. There was a slight tremble in her hands and the muscles along her arms.
It’d been a year since she started training.
And after a year, she should’ve been able to shoot a bow with ease and precision.
Sara nocks her bow and pulls it up to eye level. Her shoulders feel tense but she can’t do anything about it.
Everyone’s already shooting and even if Ra’s isn’t there to watch her, she can still feel everyone else’s eyes on her.
They whisper behind her back. After a year, she is still an outsider to them. A young privileged girl who doesn’t quite understand the world. She was only there because of Nyssa. Nyssa, the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, took care of her, nursed her back to health, and decided to train her. To which, she was more than grateful for.
Sara pulls back the bow. Takes a breath. And releases.
There’s a quiet thump as the arrow makes its mark.
Eyes fall on her. Some of them full of skepticism. All it does is makes her feel guilty.
Two warm hands fall on her shoulders. Sara looks over her shoulder to find Nyssa standing closely behind her, sharing warmth underneath her cloak.
“You are tense again,” Nyssa critiques lightly. She massages the tense flesh that has Sara shivering even harder.
Sara’s eyes fall on the others around them. She bites her lip and looks down shyly. “Thank you,” she mumbles as she subtly tries to shrug off Nyssa’s touches.
Nyssa notices this and glances around them. The others instantly look away but Nyssa knows why they’re staring. She stares back at Sara sadly. “My apologies if I’ve made you uncomfortable.”
Sara looks back at Nyssa with a blush on her cheeks. “No, I’m sorry,” she quickly apologizes. “I’m just having a hard time with this and I don’t want them to give you anymore trouble because of me.”
Nyssa narrows her eyes and Sara knows that look. Nyssa is ready to defend her honor.
Sara reaches for Nyssa’s hand. “It’s okay, I understand.”
“They have no right to say anything about you. You’ve proven your abilities with training,” Nyssa growls.
Sara smiles. “With your help,” she reminds. “You’ve helped me plenty. Let me do this so they won’t have anything to say about me anymore.”
Sara shakes her head. “I’ve got to do this, Nyssa,” she firmly says. “I want to stay. So I have to prove it.”
Nyssa looks unconvinced but she could never say no to Sara, that much she’s learned quickly. Sara isn’t blind to the affection and she enjoys it. She wants to be there with Nyssa. But she can’t always rely on Nyssa. Nyssa places her hand on Sara’s shoulder once more, rubbing it with encouragement.
“Remember to relax, habibti,” Nyssa whispers before taking her leave.
Sara nods with focus. She keeps meaning to ask Nyssa what habibti means, but she’ll do it after she gets this shot.
feel free to prompt me one of these
