I would say 90% of the time when people complain about shoulder pain during any type of free weight pressing motion. It has to do with the person not lifting the bar evenly, and yes they will feel like they are lifting even. Even as a person that has lifted for a long time eventually you go off balanced and need to correct it again. I suggest taking a video and filming yourself to see the imbalance. In this video my client has 2 issues. Prior to filming I told him to push more with the right because he was way off with the balance. Which is why he over pushes on the right a few times. The bigger issue is during the lockout he has a greater range of motion on his left side so he locks out at a slightly higher point making him off balance in both positive and negative parts of the movement. This will get fixed in time with practice and some rehab exercises for his shoulder.
