I live for those moments when the sounds take over and the feeling of its presence take you outside of yourself. You're at a concert and your favorite song is being played. Suddenly it is as though you're in your car, or your room, or on the train with your iPod but in real life. You become one with those around you; unified by this one song. This experience. This moment. I live for those moments when the final note of an aria is sung. Beautifully. Seemingly perfect. Nearly drowning in a tidal wave of emotion. Placing hands together and briskly applauding. Nearly loosing your breath as you take in all that has happened onstage. I live for those moments when the harmonies, so rich and so lush send chills down your spine. The hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Eyes closed, you can't imagine how it is possible to hear so deeply that you are moved emotionally. I live for those moments when you witness the discovery of something new. Seeing young minds take in the sounds of the orchestra or the sights of an opera. I live for those moments when a show ends and the crowd files out excited by what they just experienced. A sea of people who would probably never interact outside a concert hall or club coming together to share a single experience. I live for those moments when I think, "I was a part of what made tonight possible." From my days of speaking, "this is backstage to front of house" as a house manager; to tweeting for Rams Head Live. From opening the house; to selling merch. Preparing green rooms; to canvassing one of the largest arts festivals in the country. This is why I do what I do. I love the the experience. I live for these moments. I live for working to make these moments possible for other people. This I do because I love.
