There are many things I will never understand but one of the biggest for me is how Jacob, Crave or Bell or even HBO have refused to say anything in the name of not alienating 'fans". Or even dumber not drawing attention to it. Too late. It's got attention. Would it stop them? Of course not but it would make it harder to go unchecked. The creators of Off Campus did it for their cast. And their employer is fucking Amazon. How do you let Amazon handle a situation better than you? These are not the fans you want, and yes it is a minority of fans but they're vile and they're getting worse not better. It shouldn't be François and Connor's responsibility to handle.
And just so everyone is aware (because I know not everyone here is from the U.S) taking legal action against them or even the ex would require both François and Connor to divulge private information about themselves that they shouldn't have to divulge in order to get some kind of peace from these people. For instance if they file against the ex obtaining a restraining order would mean having to list the addresses they'd want to protect. That would include François' cottage. It would also include his new place, which very possibly is also Connor's place. Those addresses would get leaked. Forcing François to once again have to move and lose both residents.
Filing against the fans would also include Connor having to divulge private information regarding any possible assault, which again would absolutely get leaked. The discovery faze for both the ex as well as the fans would result in F and C having to divulge their private information and that's simply not something they should have to do. So it's sadly not as simple as just them taking legal action. And sadly leaving comments, even the ones like they're leaving isn't breaking any kind of law. Seeking naked pics of Connor for release is breaking a law. Having people stalk both C and F is breaking the law but their celebrities so the same people just following them around w/o the verbal or physical threat of harm isn't going to count as stalking. They're stuck. And that's what's so infuriating about Jacob and the production companies staying quiet. No one is helping them. Obviously things could be going on behind the scenes that we don't know about but it's unlikely given how emboldened they've become over the last week.
I do assume at this point they saw something that proved C was in NY to see F because they're too mad and angry and it's not just because Connor didn't go see Hudson on his mini break. Hudson didn't go see Connor either. They've been unhinged the whole time but this past week is a new level of anger at both C and F. That didn't come about from nothing. This ramble got long but I hate these people and I feel so sorry for both Connor and François and I hate that no one in any kind of position to even do a small thing to help them seems to care.
Didn’t even notice the misspelling you’re fine lol I would imagine legal action isn’t actually going to happen for these reasons and more! That’s more a burning desire from fandom to see them have to face the shit they’ve done than anything else, because it does feel helpless sometimes. For whatever reason they have really ratcheted up their nonsense and there has to be a reason - I would think.
We can agree to disagree over what Jacob and the production should have done! Off Campus saying something to the fans did exactly nothing, as did the excellent statement François and Hudson released together. It just doesn’t work that way. People who are this parasocial and insane are not going to listen to reason. They aren’t going to wake up one day and decide “oh yeah that statement that Jacob Tierney made really opened my eyes!” No, it would just make them further attack Jacob and the cast and crew. Because Jacob also got death threats - this is NOT just Connor and François. This is everyone involved with the show and they all collectively have the right to make a decision on how to handle it. I feel sorry for everyone in the show who have to put up with their nonsense on social media when all the wanted to do was make a show that highlights queer joy. Karma will hit, and it will be delicious.
