What happens if you DON't show up for court in a criminal case?

Well...if you are represented by counsel, usually, the Court will let it slide one time and issue a "Show Cause" for you to answer as to why you weren't present and accounted for.

Okay. SOOOOO...what happens if you don't show up a second time? The Court has little patience for such behavior and will summarily issue a "CAPIAS" for you. WHat is a "Capias,?" you ask? GREAT QUESTION! Literal interpretation is "Seizure of the Body." So, it is a Court Order for seizure of the body. That is correct. You will be arrested as soon as possible and held until the Court date.
