An entry for the Global Impact Garden category at the Royal Horticultural Society Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, UK, was ‘The Forest Will See You Now’, designed by Michelle Brandon. This walk-through garden alerted visitors to the benefits of being in a forest and the calming effects of trees which were represented by plantings of the deciduous broadleaf Betula pendula (birch), a few evergreen Pinus sylvestris (Scots pine) and an understorey of Corylus avellana (hazel) and Acer campestre (field maple), all native woody species in the UK.

Hard to believe that this little stream isn't somewhere in the wild. It was actually part of Dan Pearson's groundbreaking show garden at the 2015 Chelsea Flower Show which rightfully won Best in Show. The half hardy perennial Digitalis × valinii ‘Foxlight Rose Ivory’ (foxglove hybrid) was creating a group vertical flower spikes in this show garden at the Royal Horticultural Society Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, UK. This hybrid is a cross between Digitalis canariensis and Digitalis purpurea.

At the Hampton Court Flower Show, Surrey, UK, one of the Show Gardens was using Buddleja davidii 'Wisteria Lane' (butterfly bush) to illustrate how plants colonise post industrial landscapes. This recent cultivar has an uncommon weeping, compact habit with displays of long honey-scented flowers which were attracting the butterflies. As a relatively compact deciduous shrub it can be included in a mixed border and needs to be pruned hard after flowering but before Spring bud burst, removing all of the previous year's growth to three or four buds.
