Today’s theme for National Arts & Humanities Month is “rural art.” For my birthday this year in August I visited the Briscoe Western Art Museum (@briscoemuseum) for the first time and happened upon this painting there which turned out to be my favorite. It’s called “Reverence,” and I guess it’s not terribly rural, but at one point in time the missions here in San Antonio sat in sparsely populated country. This painting is lost in time, but I’m going to say that it occupies a period when not many people were around. And thus concludes my contribution to today’s #nahm assignment! #ShowYourArt2018 @americans4arts #ruralart (à The Briscoe Western Art Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoidOdsHeQl/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5p1x6tnpgfb8
This pen and ink drawing of a swan and hawk was influenced by the style of writing developed by Platt Rogers Spencer in the 19th century. The Spencerian method of penmanship was taught in most American schools into the 20th century.
National Arts & Humanities Month continues. Today’s theme is public art. Our newest work of public art is being installed at Simpson Park Playground. Playful work by May + Watkins will soon be open to the public. What are your favorite works of public art, in Alexandria or elsewhere? Share pictures today with #artsalx and #showyourart2018 #alexandriava #publicart #visitalx #maywatkinsdesign (at Alexandria, Virginia) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpcP9PhBTCV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=slljfmcv2521
Today’s @americans4arts theme is #ModernArt. Today, we travel across the pond to the @vamuseum and back in time to 2015 when @graftonarchitects created this 23 stone installation honoring the #Ogham alphabet. #showyourart2018 🇮🇪🏴 (at Victoria and Albert Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpcJ3atn59y/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=489i5hyezha1
National Arts & Humanities Month continues. Today's theme is Historic Art. Today we look back to 2017 for @centennialoftheeveryday on view at @gadsbystavernmuseum in the Time & Place series. @laurenfrancesadams and @stew_artwatson created a series of interventions throughout the museum that were inspired by the real homegoods and domestic arts that would have been contemporary to John Gadsby's life. See the modern work compared to the historic. What historic art do you encounter in your life? Share it with #artsALX and #showyourart2018. #Repost @torpedofactory with @get_repost ・・・ National Arts & Humanities Month continues. Today's theme is Quiet Art. This is an installation view of Caroline Hatfield's work during their Target Gallery solo exhibition, "Unearthing," earlier this year.
