Did you ever toy with a TK POV in SHPS? I’m dying to know what he was thinking the first time he bumped into Pat at the Den 😆

No, I didn’t. Pat views himself as an outsider. His perspective was always going to be more interesting to write than the POV of someone who stayed and continued to grow and change with the town.

But I thought about his POV with every scene. with the way I like to write, you have to. Especially for scents and body language.

Pat has been avoiding even thinking about TK, so he’s definitely not considering the high likelihood that he’s going to run into him. But that’s not the case for TK. He’s been anticipating it and trying to manifest it since he heard Pat was back in town.

He appears calm and collected in the moment, but I think he’s just as overwhelmed as Pat is. Even though he’s been thinking about it for a week (and longer tbh), it’s still a shock to see him in person after not seeing him for six and a half years. Pat has changed. His hair is longer. His body is different—in the way it is for all of us once we settle into adulthood. He’s grown up, you know? He has tattoos and a shitty beard (affectionate) and his style isn’t even close to what it was when they were kids. I think for TK, it’s just as exciting as it is nerve wracking. He’s in touch with feelings, unlike Pat. He knows he still loves him. Knows he wants him back. And seeing him again just cements that.

What’s TK thinking? That Pat looks beautiful. Not in spite of how messy he looks, but because of it. That Pat is still the same mercurial person he’s always been. That TK can’t wait to see what happens while Pat is in town. That he’s gonna do whatever it takes to wiggle his way back into Pat’s life.

That’s what he’s thinking.

a couple months ago i set a goal for myself to finish SHPS by labor day — and this morning i did 🥰

113k total, 4 parts. i may end up adding an epilogue, i may not. i'll talk with my beta(s) about it and see what the vibe is.

but i'm done!
