I've been trying to keep my hype in check but this teaser really sold me to the adaptation from The Miniature Wife. I don't think they're going for the same vibe as the short story, and I'm here for a lighter tone.

Well, I didn't get my shrink ray for Christmas, but I still have tiny friends and for that I am so grateful. I wish you all an excellent 2026, big or smol. Back to our regularly scheduled shrinking with a lovely animation called "Shrinking Skirmish", by Cassie Volkin. It's about a fairy chasing after a monster while they are both under the effect of a shrinking potion. Their struggle continues into this girl's home, and while the effect of the potion gradually wears off on them, the poor human girl gets accidentally doused with the potion. She ends up a few inches tall (offscreen, sadly).

This leads to a great size swap where the home owner is now tiny and running for her life while the fairy and monster are normal-sized again.

That short sequence skillfully showcases the size difference using camera work and low angles, in ways that mainstream productions seem to never get right.

This shrinking episode has a special place in my heart because it has many size tropes I love and don't see often. For example, although she's scared after being shrunk, she's still resilient and manages to escape and use her size to her advantage.

It helps that the shrunken woman is absolutely adorable. Four inches tall and she remains brave, defiant, and strong-willed. I think I love bossy tinies who don't realise (or care) that they're not supposed to be in charge anymore. Like a shrunken princess still ordering her knight around.

That scene just kills me. How I long to hold a tiny woman like this, and have her fall asleep, feeling safe into my hands, because she knows her giant protector would never let anything happen to her. From "No Boundary" / 玉昭令 第一季 (2021) episode 20

I know nothing about Tears of Themis or who those characters are, but this is some very cute G/t. I know that look, I have the same one when I stare at a cute tiny lady.

Reaching for that head pat with his finger, while she gives his nose a booping.

This is one of my favourite shrinking scene - a bit chaotic, still a very original take on the process. Love that MK ends up so small 😍.

The use of extreme angles in the movie, like in the deer scene, give such a great sense of scale, showing how utterly tiny she is. Seeing this on the big screen back then completely blew my mind!

Princess Parisa's shrinking scene is really something else. Her arm slowly getting smaller is such a good idea, it really made the viewer wonder how tiny she would end up. Filmed against a blue screen with a camera backing away slowly over 40 feet by master Ray Harryhausen.

Kathryn Grant is such a sweet shrunken woman. Her size of 3.5 inches is perfect for me, and the entire "shrunken princess" trope is my first ever SW fantasy as a child. Just look at her kicking that grape, she's just too cute. - "Sinbad, how can you love a tiny, insignificant female such as I?" - "A diamond is a tiny thing, yet it is very precious, and beautiful." I love how she shrinks, the speed isn't too fast or too slow, and she ends up right on his palm. Perfect catch.
