04. Our muses are destined to be high school sweethearts, but nothing more
(Highschool AU, obviously)
"Open yer mouth, Nui, 's time fer some apples!"
A piece of an apple in her hand, Stella looked expectatly at the redhead, a tender smile adorning the face of the one-eyed girl. Nui began to sit up in response, though she buckled over as another coughing fit rattled through her body. Instantly, Stella reached over and rubbed soothingly her girlfriend's back, whispering comforting words to her, until the coughes stopped.
"U-Uhhh... I-I-I'm s-so s-s-sorry, Stella", the sick girl apologized, tears staining her hazy eyes. Stella shook her head lightly and stroked Nui's cheeks gently, still using her comforting voice to talk to the girl:"It's nothing ta be sorry for, Nui. 'S nothin' there can be done, ya just need ta take it easy 'n relax, alright?"
"O-Okay... A-A-And, uh... I-I'd l-l-like some a-apples."
Stella nodded understandingly and raised the hand with the apple piece in it, putting it in Nui's mouth and watch her carefully as she ate the fruit. Though she also glanced around for a moment, but then again, there was not much to see in the school sickbay. Just some beds, a few chairs, a table and closets with god knows what in it. It wasn't a place Stella was incredibly fond of, but for her sweetheart, she would be here as often as it needs to be.
Stella grimaced and closed her eye, immediately telling herself to not loose her composure while she was around Nui. The poor girl had enough worries and insecurities as it is, so she didn't need to know about what was going through her mind.
It hurt.
It hurt so much to accept reality. To accept that they wouldn't be together for long. Never would they be granted the wish to live a long, happy life - the only thing they could do as of now was to enjoy life while they could... while Nui could, before....
"S-Stella?"
Stella quickly opened her eyes and smiled at Nui, taking another apple piece. "Oh, sorry, was just thinkin' 'bout what lesson we have next. I think it's sport, so we can lean back 'n rest more. Now, here have another apple piece~"
