Oh man! This artwork should have been posted ages ago! But I’ve just kept forgetting about it! 😅
These are two are my first ever Danganronpa OCs, Yukiko & Natsuko Nakamura, the SHSL Twin Idols (Aka. Ultimate Twin Idols) 💙❤️✨
As you can see, I’ve played with some themes here for these two, mostly colour & music. Yukiko is the very shy, quiet, feminine twin who does suffer from a little bit of low self esteem (Like Chihiro) she’s always apologising (Like Mikan but she’s nowhere near as crazy as her…or bullied). When overly stressed or emotional Yukiko is the most likely to start crying, but despite being the most weepy, she’s the easiest of the two to calm down with reassurance & support. Despite her issues, overall, Yukiko is a very friendly, kind person. Yukiko’s blue colour scheme matches her personality as it is overall a calming, quiet colour, it’s a colour that’s also known to represent loyalty & harmony. The symbol on her jumper also represents Yukiko’s personality as does it represent her talent as an idol, it is the Music Symbol Piano, which indicates a soft intensity or volume of a musical line.
Natsuko is the polar opposite to Yukiko, she’s loud, outgoing, and more tomboy than her more feminine twin (But whatever you do, don’t tell Natsuko that). Definitely the most aggressive of the two, is known to be a little foul mouthed & is absolutely not afraid to get in a fight with the other students, especially if it’s to defend her twin sister, even to the point of threatening physical violence if buttons are really pushed (Which is unfortunately easy to do). But despite her aggressiveness, Natsuko, like her sister, is overall a very friendly person. Natsuko’ Red colour scheme matches the more aggressive parts of her personality as it is a colour that does represent anger, danger & sin, it’s also a colour that means courage, passion & love. The Musical Symbol on Natsuko’s jumper means, Forte, and it indicates a loud intensity or volume of a musical line.
As their Super High School Level title suggests, the Nakamura twins are Idols, Idols that exclusively perform together & are very popular because of that. While the extremes of their personalities are toned down in favour of their more friendly & sweeter characteristics, Yukiko’s shyness & Natsuko’s aggressiveness does leak out from time to time, but fans would argue that’s part of their charm.
So I know the actual Danganronpa series has played around with twin characters before (Not revealing which characters they are due to it being a major, MAJOR spoiler for the 1st game). But while I was creating my own roster of OCs (Yes I have more OCs than these two, may draw them in the future if you like 😄), I was thinking about how in real life there are twins that just do EVERYTHING together, hate to be apart from each other & just have that deep connection regular siblings don’t seem to have.
These two were created with that idea behind them, “We do anything & share everything together”. In my Danganronpa, they would be characters that would be the only ones to actually share a dorm room & Class trial podium with, their vote is counted as one vote as well since they usually come to the same conclusion (If there is some disagreement they will talk it over with themselves quietly until they both agree). “We count as one” I could see the twins saying.
But then I started to think, how would Monokuma take advantage of their twin way of life to bring out the most despair.
What would happen if one of these twins actually killed another student? And they’re found Guilty?! What would Monokuma do? Would he execute the twin that killed to leave the other twin to stew in despair & loneliness that could end with their eventual suicide? No, that sounds too easy, in fact, that would be expected. No, what I believe Monokuma would do, is take full advantage of their “We count as 1” and would execute BOTH OF THEM!
Try as the blackened sister would like to beg & plead Monokuma to not kill her sister since she didn’t kill anyone, it would be wasted breath. Monokuma would argue that their whole life as the twins themselves have put it has been spent “As One”, saying that they ate together, slept in the same room together, performed together & shared everything together. “It only makes sense that you two should die together. After all I wouldn’t be that cruel to let a twin die alone without their precious sibling. Upupuuu~!” Monokuma’s secondary argument would be that their title is also shared between the two, “Super High School Level Twin Idols”. Being twins is part of their shtick. It’s either gonna be both twins, or nobody. “After all, what could be more despair inducing knowing that you’re twin sibling is going to suffer the same consequences…And it’s ALL YOUR FAULT! UPUPUPUPUU!! 😈”
Okay so that was ALOT to read, I know, but I hope you really liked my drawing of my Danganronpa OCs & liked reading about the ideas & concepts that went into their design. Please let me know if you want to see more of my Danganronpa OCs in the future 😄
