 This film is entirely made a series of flashbacks and flashforwards of a single week in the lives of a married man, his lover and his patient.

Dr. Angier(Firth) has strived to be a good person his whole life, but as a tumor grows in the frontal cortex of his brain his behavior becomes erratic and psychotic, putting every unsuspecting loved one at risk. The movie follows his downfall from the eyes of his mistress Natalie(Sossamon), who he rapes and tortures, and Jacob(Whishaw), who falls deathly ill due to wrongly prescribed medication. They meet at the emergency room, and together try to figure out why they never saw it coming and how to help him before he hurts himself.

Jack(Takei) is an elderly man with a haunted conscience.
