Awh, shucks, had he got turned around again? Every time they went on a pack hunt, he’d get distracted, ‘n’ then he’d get lost, ‘n’ then Mom ‘n’ Dad would yell at him in front of the rest of the pack, and that was always so embarrassing! The thought of it made his cheeks hot and his eyes prick with tears, and the wolf sunk to the ground in despair, resting his chin on his knees.
As far as he could tell, he was on the outskirts of the forest, but... it just wasn’t right. Everything felt all wet ‘n’ yucky, and it wasn’t the right kinda cold like back home. Before, everything had been all, like, warm and red and crisp, but now it was all... damp. Augh! Why did he suck so bad?! He’d had enough - he was gonna find the pack himself, ‘n’ he wasn’t gonna get yelled at this time! He was almost a big boy - nearly nine! - ‘n’ big boys didn’t ever get told off. Clambering to his feet and scrubbing his face on his shirt, Freddie clomped determinedly away from the forest and towards the town - not a town he’d ever seen before, which only made him feel more anxious. Just like his mom ‘n’ dad told him, he found the first nice lookin’ person he could and tugged on his shirt, asking loudly, “Uh, ‘scuse me, sir, but I’m lookin’ for Grand Falls..!”
