his friendship with marley had been a positive force when he probably needed it most. at a low point once again after just having risen from the ashes of what had felt like a completely collapsed world, returning to lima with his tail between his legs and head hung low only to have the one thing that had given him any hope or motivation at all taken away mere months later, marley’s push had been his impetus to turn things around again. but, he supposed, the world of mckinley was one he was going to have leave behind at some point. text exchanges and occasional phone calls and scattered meetings for coffee or lunch all became increasingly sporadic as they moved moved forward with their respective studies and traveled further along down their own paths. of the new directions members he’d coached, he kept more in touch with those he’d been in glee club with himself — sam, blaine, tina, brittany, particularly since so many of them had ended up out in new york with his brother. it was normal to fall out of touch with people, and such a fate had befallen him and marley. but he’d heard she was going to be coming to university of lima, too, and he was more than happy to meet with her to assure her that the familiar face on campus would have her back and be there to help her navigate college life.
finn wasn’t sure he’d mentioned amy to marley directly before. they’d started dating towards the end of his freshman year after meeting in his comparative literature class, a general education requirement he’d complained endlessly about needing to take — until they’d met, and it became the class he looked forward to most. he wasn’t anyone who posted often on social media, despite being one of those people who would scroll on his phone into the wee hours of the morning before finally getting to sleep, but she had a presence. it was how most of his other friends had found out about their relationship, but given the fact that so many of them who would’ve made a fuss about it we’re all out in new york it was entirely plausible that this would’ve been the first she was hearing of it. of course, the ring on her finger was kind of a big deal, but finn had been known to fall hard and fast — and this time, the wedding date was set to fall upon completion of their studies.
they waited for marley exchanging idle conversation, gentle smiles ever-present on their faces, though his brightened up a bit more when he saw his old friend come in. “hey, it’s good to see you,” finn greeted. at marley’s introduction, the woman at his side reciprocated and extended a hand for a cursory shake, warmly telling her it was nice to meet her and giving her name as amy. “she’s gotta run in a bit, but she heard an old friend of mine was starting here and she wanted to say hi.” the smile on his face was beaming, almost proud as his gaze shifted to his side, a hand resting on her knee.
