i. the first time they kiss she has just been born and rin doesn't know much outside of his world except that there is suddenly someone new, someone they call his sister. his mother encourages him to greet her, say hello, and he responds by sloppily pressing his lips to her cleaned, fat cheek. gou blinks wide-eyed at him and smiles.ii. they kiss when they are children and they kiss because they are children, playing house, dress-up, mimicking what they see their parents do whenever their father comes back from the sea. gou kisses sousuke too.iii. her nightmares wake him up in the middle of the night, throw him out of his sleep with sudden screams and cries and it doesn't ever stop until he assures his working mother he can handle it and until he lays next to her in bed, assuring her with kisses pressed to her wet lashes and cheeks. gou falls back asleep in his arms and rin doesn't want to go to australia after all.iv. she's different. she's taller. she's a first year in high school. she's all these things and even though he had seen her at christmas, he is shocked at the fall of her hair around her face, at the way she acts like their father with her stubbornness and passion for life. he sees her for the first time in months and it feels like the first time ever. gou kisses the corner of his mouth and he realizes he's finally home.v. she's furiously wiping the tears from her eyes, laughing too loud, standing too far away. everyone is saying goodbye to him and haru, congratulating them, wishing them well, but she's at the back of the pack, eyes towards the ceiling and never directly at him, at anyone around her. when it's finally her turn to say goodbye, her arms are thrown around his shoulders and she is shaking with the effort to not burst into tears. it's middle school all over again and rin thinks he will stay, leave his dream behind, until her lips brush against his for the briefest moment. "you'd better train hard so you don't lose when i come see you in a few months!" gou smiles, brows furrowed, lips quivering and rin promises he will work hard, if only so he can see the happy version that bright white shining in front of him again
