Whenever a female character is shy she has no personality. I'm tired of seeing people say that being shy is the same as having no personality. Especially between readers.

The 3 types of characters I relate to:
The sweet shy sensitive one
The socially awkward one
The low energy moody one
In books I have the biggest soft spot for the shy type. Like they just want to say or do something, but have no confidence. So I’m just whispering “no it’s okay, you can do it” to the pages the whole time. They’re just trying their best and I’m so proud of them.
Is it just me or would an adaption of persuasion or Mansfield park, the two novels that had more reclusive/shy protagonists work so well in a modern adaption that used online blogging??
It would have been an easy way to contrast a very shy withdrawn personality in public and a more expressive one in private?? Course, by expressive I mean merely saying “I like” “I dislike” in the 3rd person. Not directly saying “I hate aunt (name) who made me give up (name)”
Thank you for this ask!
So, that's why I will always love From Mansfield With Love, and I think either blogging or vlogging could open up a whole new side of a shy character in a modern adaption. When it's difficult to express yourself in the moment, it's easier to reflect and to give us, the watchers, a window into their thoughts.
My super quiet character was chatting up a storm the other day. I now know what her bedroom looks like, how she talks, her favorite movies, her favorite story, where he safe place is, etc, etc. And this is from a character who is really quiet.
A day or two later I caught her dancing around her room singing a sweet love song and using her hairbrush as a microphone. She was very embarrassed when I caught her.
I’m really glad about all of this. She’s finally coming to life.
Never trust anyone who hates shy characters simply because they’re shy.
Me:.....*suddenly starts crying bc shy characters exist*
I have such a weakness for shy, sweet characters that it's ridiculous.
