the nipple grab moment (great gifs by @waywardmillennial!) has been shaking around in my head like a coin in a piggy bank and i have some thoughts
okay so what was that all about? well… nothing is without cause! Here's what I saw.
Shane has been annoying Ryan for a good portion of the episode. First Shane teases Ryan about his chair making a farting noise.
Ryan's response:
he's already kind of keyed up!
Then when Ryan is doing the plug/outro for the channel he accidentally interrupts Shane a couple times.
Shane's response:
Ryan is vexed by this …
He is searching for a verbal comeback but can't think of anything. this rage… this frustration… how can he proclaim it?
In times like these we fall back on our nonverbal communication skills:
Shane is a good sport! and Ryan is very pleased with himself.
Something i think is funny about their relationship is that Shane is a better verbal annoyer than Ryan, and Ryan doesn't try to hide it or play it off when Shane is really annoying him.
and, there's something about that, isnt there?
Something about that feeling. when someone is very well-practiced at bothering you, specifically you. it's very irritating, and yet, that particular flavor of irritating is close to… affectionate. do you know what i mean? that someone knows you very well, and is interested in getting a rise out of you, and is interested in getting your attention. Deep down, I think there is something flattering about the way that Shane likes to annoy Ryan.
In turn, there's something satisfying about knowing that you've really gotten someone, you've gotten to the heart of what winds them up, so much so that they cannot hide it from you. that they want you to know: you got me… and now i'm going to try to get you.
Shane wants to hold Ryan's hand so bad.... both in that video and in the gf sneak peek at the end when the cameraman is like "we can still see you" "no you can't" it's because he wanted to hold his hand I think.

It DOES look like Shane is going to hold Ryan's hand. And its funny you mentioned this clip, Anon, because Shane does that same thing from the GF tour video.
He kind of pulls back after he touches Ryan's hand. Like maybe he was reaching to slide his fingers against Ryan's palm. but he got his sleeve and back of his hand instead, because Ryan wasn't reaching to meet him. Kind of like Ryan was telling him, We're on camera (again)! Can't be doin that!
Since we're seeing these two examples from just recently, it makes me wonder (just for fun) if they've started casually holding hands more! It's probably a soothing touch for them both. And i have to admit. I do love the idea of Shane pressing kisses to Ryan's knuckles, fingers, and palm with his soft, soft lips. hehe
I continue to adore their affectionate friendship and I can't wait to see what the rest of GF S3 will bring!
why do you think they are like this? Why are they descibing things that sound more sexual than they really are?

Hmm…
On the surface, it's a simple question. But depending on how much reading between the lines you want to do, you could dive pretty deep. And I hope you packed your scuba suit...
The easy answer is, they make dirty jokes because it's funny - but we already knew that! I think the meat of this question really is asking about the extent of their relationship. Are they flirting/dirty joking because it's funny, nothing more? Or is it because they're making out sloppy style the second the camera shuts off?
I think the most straight (ha) forward answer is, it's 80% just their type of humor and 20% they like the buzz it generates when they imply things. There is nothing wrong with this answer. But, it feels like it's missing some nuance.
It's natural to wonder if the dirty joking is the tip of the iceberg, and if they're romantically/sexually involved on their own time. And honestly, hey, they could be! Certainly we don't know for sure. It creates this pocket of mystery, and I think that's a fun space to play around in. You could assume they are together and keeping it on the DL, referencing it through their dirty jokes.
I don't really believe that's happening. What I DO think is that their affection goes deeper than regular friendship, and that they share more physical affection than the average best friends. I think they hold hands, I think they cuddle, and I think they've kissed.
But, I don't believe that affection is the reason they're so flirty and dirty on camera. I think it goes like this:
Shane is devoted to Ryan, and Ryan knows this, and he loves it. And if his jokes imply that the devotion goes even deeper, then he loves that too!
To me, all the pestering/joking is them saying to each other, you allow me to be a pest because you love me. But they are careful with it, careful in their relationship. And, reader, that's what makes it such a fantastic dynamic. They love each other SO much.
But this just my personal onion. Sorry this got so long. Thank you for the ask!
...bruh. Out of literally all of the things that people guessed to be the topic...it was just straight up THIS. Which means that excellent fic fodder shall be provided. (I watched this episode when it came out but my brain was on fire the whole time and it it took awhile to process...)
