Sia is an artist of so many talents—from song writing, to producing, to somehow performing an unobtainable vocal range. She’s got it all, especially since 1000 Forms of Fear… which is just what I was about to get to. 

“Fire Meet Gasoline” may sound a little familiar because it was in deed released as a single… just not in the US, but in Germany. It was the final single released from its album. But, to me, it’s unfortunate. The only time I got to hear it (aside from putting it on repeat, while I showered) was when it played in a movie trailer based on Nicholas Spark’s book The Choice.

Advertisements aside, “Fire Meet Gasoline” had a lot of radio potential. It is catchy, goose bump-friendly and aesthetically perfect in almost every way. Sure it’s not completely upbeat, but it’s powerful. It’s seriously one of Sia’s most influential ballads, in my book. This song will make you realize Adele does have some competition. 

The song starts off with some sort of demented and distorted piano playing. It’s one that sounds creepy, yet beautiful… and then, the drums kick in. Sia sings in the most Sia-like way—so unique—and it’s completely compelling:

It’s dangerous to fall in love But I want to burn with you tonight Hurt me There’s two of us Bristling with desire The pleasure’s pain and fire Burn me

You may be thinking, “What!?… Burn me? What the…” Well, it’s OK guys; it’s a metaphor. 

The most intelligent and beautiful part of this piece is the chorus… the third time around. 

Flame you came for me, fire meet gasoline Fire meet gasoline, I’m burning alive I can barely breathe when you’re here loving me Fire meet gasoline, fire meet gasoline

It feels like you’re in a church and all of its choir is singing for you. A flood of emotion pours through your veins, and it inspires you. You want to go to church. Rid yourself of those Rihanna demons.

The production is simply incredible. All of the layers Sia put into this piece will blow your mind.
