Johnny's parents are some of the last to hear of his death. who knew their son was in the hospital from headlines n only learn of his death through word of mouth. n in death Johnny's worst fears are confirmed. their lives will go on. as if he never existed at all. which may have been a tragedy to the Johnny before that cold November night. but not to the Johnny that came out of that fire. he will die havin committed the ultimate act of bravery. rejectin the family he was born to n dyin with the love of the only people who ever truly cared about some punk greaser kid who just never got any of the breaks. the kid they all loved. Johnny Cade.

Earl Sweatshirt - SICK!: a lyrical genius' post-pandemic reflections.
Thebe Neruda Kgositsile, better known by his stage moniker, Earl Sweatshirt, released his 4th studio album, SICK! in January 2022. His project is written in typical Earl fashion, being metaphorical, complex, and poignant. His music typically reads like a stream of consciousness, jumping subject matter every other bar. SICK! is a lyrically dense piece that tells a choppy story of the rapper’s current mental state and worldview—three years into the pandemic and four years after his father’s death.
The project is only 24 minutes long—consisting of 10 songs, with only 2 features. Number one on the track list is the song, “Old Friend” and by far my favorite. The first song on a project often serves as a preview for listeners to get acquainted with the album’s ambiance. The Alchemian instrumental for the track is quite simple and reflective of the trusting friendship and musical bond The Alchemist and Earl have cultivated over the years. The instrumental is made up of only two layers, using 3 detectable instruments. There are no 808’s, fades, or drops in this sequence--it’s an undecorated melody that still lands cinematically.
Dean really made cas a mixtape with his favorite songs on it....he made him a MIXTAPE!!!! A music lover compiling his favorite songs on a MIXTAPE and giving it to someone is like the most beautiful romantic thing?????
