Ash will be undergoing a procedure at 10 am to remove the "sludge" from his bile duct. The "sludge" has contributed to the pain he's experiencing in his tummy. As part of this procedure, the medical team has decided to remove his gallbladder. I was informed that it's fairly common for a #sickler to have their gallbladder removed. And that there are a lot of people (nonsicklers) that have it removed as well. If removing his gallbladder alleviates the pain then I am for it. Ultimately, we have to do what's best for our kids and their way of life. Considering that Ash has never been admitted for a #sicklecellcrisis just complications due to sickle cell we're hoping that our hospital stays will be few and far between after this procedure and gallbladder removal. #somethingsabouther #stahfamily #sicklecellawareness #gallbladderremoval #sicklecellbetathalassemia #gallbladdersurgery #bileduct #sicklecellcaregiver #phxblogger #sicklecellcommunity #avondalearizona #arizonablogger #sicklecellcomplications (at Phoenix Children's Hospital) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7OS5rUnuhR/?igshid=r68jjg589lle
Progress Update: Ash is getting better. He's still experiencing some pain but not as bad as it was this time last week. I didn't know a #sicklecellcrisis could last this long. I'm still learning a lot about the disorder and how it impacts my son's day to day activities. It's not easy, and I commend any parent that cares for a child under these or similar circumstances. It's stressful as hell for everyone involved. I'm going to teach Ash how to meditate in hopes that it will help him manage his pain. Oh and he doesn't want to take the bandage off his hand. I've been slowly but surely working it off his wrist. #thatsmyson #sicklecellcaregiver #somethingsabouther #meditatewithme #sicklecellawareness #sicklecellcomplications #sicklecellwarrior (at Avondale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuSaSfKFmLm/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1g21g0fj9jrhc
Alright, it is already Friday in some parts of the world. So here is another installation of #mentalhealthfriday. Let's not forget to perform a #mentalhealthcheckin by reaching out to our friends and family. Don't forget to conduct your own assessment by evaluating #whatsinyourbag while preparing for the weekend. __ Personally, this week was challenging and exhausting for me due to my sons #sicklecellcrisis and being admitted to the hospital. The week was stressful because there is not a lot I can do to soothe him in these situations. I am incredibly thankful for my family and #mrpockets during this time. So dare I ask, what's in your bag? #somethingsabouther (at Avondale, Arizona)
