okay so i like mary's personality. she's funny and isn't scared to say what she thinks. she doesn't want to come between john and sherlock and that's really nice of her. and she does clearly love john, a selfish kind of love yes, but she loves him. what i don't like about mary are her actions and life choices. Including shooting sherlock in the fucking chest to keep him quiet and lying to john about her whole life and about the person she truly is. she completely betrayed john's trust and considering john has trust issues that was a really shitty thing to do to him.
