First pitches it to the Byzantine Empire, but because the damn cannon's so expensive, they say no. He goes "hm. Okay", turns right around, and goes "HEY OTTOMANS, WANT MY GUN?"

i wouldn't really call the trebuchet, or any catapult, the ancestor to the field guns of today. they may have been used for slightly similar purposes, but there isn't really a lineage between them

For a long time the balance of warfare was weighted towards immovable objects. Historical siege weaponry was a noble attempt to tilt the scales back towards unstoppable forces and for that I respect them. Of course, once the cannon became accessible enough to consistently knock down castle walls things started getting interesting until those bastard eggheads figured out how to split the atom and unstoppable forces reigned supreme.
