The Sight Hound room guardian trio is now complete! Three gifted littermates who together can see the past, present, and the future. They are each made with faux fur, have fully posable necks and tails, and have sculpted head and limbs made of painted clay.

Grimly is the oldest and sees the past, his heart is eggshell wrapped in scarlet wool.

Shasta is the middle pup and sees the present, her heart core is spruce needles. (Morely is the youngest and sees the future, he has a seashell heart and was shown off in a previous post.)

GALTx eNews: We Survived First Quarter 2021 Together!

We are just a little late bringing you last quarter's results, but wow, what a quarter! We survived Snowmageddon thanks to the hard work of so many volunteers who visited the kennel to hand deliver about 350 gallons of water for the hounds, kept the hounds warm, and safely provided canine entertainment indoors. Thanks also to all who donated to our Snowmageddon recovery campaign to help us raise $28,000 for necessary repairs and upgrades to the kennel. In March, we kicked off our 20th anniversary celebrations, participated in the virtual North Texas Irish Festival, and hosted our Greyhound Glam on-line jewelry auction to help the hounds.

Meanwhile, our adoption team struggled to stay afloat with record numbers of adoption applications. In February and March alone, our Dallas and New Mexico adoption teams received 53 new applications! And for the full quarter, our Dallas and New Mexico adoption teams finalized 46 adoptions, which is 8 more than for the same period last year. Our intake team stayed busy too with 46 new hounds joining the GALT family, one stray and 45 retiring racers and owner surrenders. In addition, Central Texas volunteers welcomed 21 new hounds and finalized 15 adoptions!

We often say that we can't do it without you, and first quarter of 2021 proved that point. The vet bills for the hounds in our Dallas/New Mexico program for just this one quarter cost us over $66,000! We really could not have continued to pay these bills and meet all of our other obligations to the hounds (such as boarding expenses, foster expenses, and administrative costs) without the contributions and support of the entire GALT family. Breeduary Day 23: Azawakh

These dogs look emaciated, but the visible ribcage and tuck is standard for the breed. Azawakhs are sighthounds that hail from West Africa. They love to hunt rabbits, antelope, and wild boar in their native countries. However, due to the diminishing numbers of wild game and the usage of firearms, the breed has declined in numbers.
