The Cigar Stop Reviews the Siglo No. IV
Name: Siglo IV Limited Reserve
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Cubano
Filler/Binder: Ecuador Binder/Dominican & Nicaraguan Filler
Shape/Size: Robusto, Churchill, Toro
Price: $7.00 - $8.00 per Single – $125.00 - $150.00 per Box
This one is not to be confused with its Cuban Cohiba cousin, this one is Nicaraguan.
I received these as a promo item when I purchased a box of Onyx Reserve Limitada, so I spent no money on them.
If I had purchased them I may have been put out by the price. These cigars are OK, but not worth $100.00 price let alone $125.00 to $150.00 per box.
They started out with that dusty feel and taste to them, but mellowed quickly, it gave you hints of earthiness, leather and cedar with notes of peppery spice on the back end.
The aroma was average, nothing to write home about. It was far from the offensive side of smells, but it was heavy and hung there in the air.
The construction was nice I had a couple of veins on 3 of them, but it was good quality all around. The ash was dark and solid with no flake. I did have to re-light the Siglo one time and readjust its burn from canoeing and that was across 4 of these cigars, it would lead me to surmise that they were either mistreated before shipping or it is just indicative of the particular blend of Siglo.
So I give you the Nicaraguan Siglo IV Limited Reserve in all its glorious high price and hype a rating of a lack luster 5 1/2 out of 10 (the price is just shameful).
Goes best with Coffee, but some nice Irish whiskey would be my second choice.
