So today I got inducted into the international nursing honor society Sigma Theta Tau. Here’s to continuing to work my way up the ladder and to being a better person every day #lovecouragehonor #sigmathetatau #nursingschool (at Salve Regina University)
“Employee disengagement costs the American economy somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 billion per year.” (Clifton, 2011). A recent study estimates that in the average organization, the cost of emotional toxicity is more than $12,000 per year per employee (Housman $ Minor, 2015). According to a survey of more than 4,500 healthcare professionals, “71 percent tied disruptive behavior, such as abusive, condescending or insulting personal conduct, to medical errors and 27 percent tied to such behavior to patient deaths.” (Porath, 2015). “In fact, if employees strongly agreed that people reflect positive attitudes, treat others with respect, and refrain from complaining, gossiping, or pointing fingers, the words “Healthcare Crisis” would never be uttered at all.” (Building a Culture of Ownership in Healthcare.) #nurses #noroomforbullies #positivevibes #nursingcrisis #buildeachotherup #onenurseonedogoneblog #foodforthought #itsnotaccountabilityitsownership #getonthegalleyship #stti #nursingscholar #sigmathetatau #sigmathetatauinternational
Crazy to think that a year ago I presented my research for research week at Nicholls. And now, my research and poster have been accepted by Sigma Theta Tau International for their International Nursing Research Congress in Ireland!! I cannot thank Dr. Eymard enough for her motivation and faith in me! 🌻🌾 #growinginrecovery #nursing #research #sigmathetatau
“Most medicine today is like a cookbook: Do X and Y, and the outcome is Z. But what makes a difference in people’s lives is the human presence. You spend time with families and really listen to them. It takes a lot of courage to nurture this kind of empathy and compassion. Honestly, working as a pediatric nurse can be very stressful. I can still recall times driving home from the hospital crying over an emotionally draining shift. I try to prepare my students for that. Of course, the science is important. We cannot do anything without understanding what happens to the human body when one is ill. But what makes people heal or cope? What makes them continue the journey? The stories. It’s these stories that kindle a fire for what we do. It’s these stories that make us who we are.”
Asma Taha, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing, pediatric nurse of 27 years. Previously worked as the nursing program director and chief nurse administrator at Cal State San Bernardino. In spring 2016, she was honored with Sigma Theta Tau’s Paula Herberg National and International Award for her work with vulnerable populations in Jordan, Jamaica, Palestine, and Israel.
Theta Zeta — Bloomsburg University's chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing — recently participated in the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk in Bloomsburg.
Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to breathe.
Under the leadership of senior student, Kendra Betz, the team raised nearly $500 to support the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through popcorn and tee shirt sales, and donations.
Team walkers were Margie Eckroth-Bucher, faculty; Michele Vining, adjunct faculty; Logan Fouts; Nikki Oman; Abby Brown; Gwen Davis; Kathleen Fulton; Alison Turzanski; Kristy Sands, faculty; Carissa Pupo; Brooke Elliot; Debra Stayer, faculty; Kenzie Sands; Kendra Betz.
