Hey, I’m really curious about how you assign blood types versus people just going with what their birth signs blood color is. If you wouldn’t mind talking about how you go about figuring out blood color? That would be v epic and fun to read
Sure thing! I do describe it here but I'll take this as an opportunity to go more in depth and give clearer examples (so warning, this’ll get long).
I’ll start with my thought process - honestly, I just wanted an excuse to not be a lime blood (my birth sign) because something about it didn’t sit right. Figuring out why it didn’t sit right led me to coming up with my theory. Plus, I enjoy analysing and figuring things out, so I added blood colour to the list of classpect and lunar sway.
Obviously, blood colour is physical - all it does is provide physical traits. Since it doesn’t provide personality traits, just going off the Extended Zodiac descriptions doesn’t make sense. The descriptions do, however, provide information relevant to what we see repeatedly throughout Homestuck and Hiveswap. Troll society places expectations and stereotypes on trolls based on their blood colour. This is explored in some of optimisticDuelist’s videos, so I’m not the only one who sees this.
So I decided the way to determine blood colour would be based on these expectations. Expectations can have an influence on who you are, so it would make sense if your real world expectations would be the same or similar to your troll ones. You can also consider other things as well - how social class mirrors the low, middle and high bloods of the hemospectrum, or what types of experiences/opportunities are open to you or that you commonly come across.
So now onto examples - I’ll use myself and my brother since I know us well. I commonly experience expectations of being smart, responsible and perfectionistic, whether from myself or school. Then there’s also the expectation society often puts on me to be nurturing or a mother. I also commonly experience disconnection/detachment from people, and since this isn’t explained by my classpect, it would make sense that it’s because it’s a common experience of Jadebloods. I do happen to have a lot of personality traits that match these expectations though, so now let’s look at my brother.
He isn’t that much like Goldblood expectations, but he certainly experiences them. Similarly, he’s expected to be intelligent thanks to school and himself. Some people perceive him as being angrier than he actually is. And then there’s some people who think he’s self-focused way more than he truly is or expect him to be an impulse buyer and bad with finances despite all evidence to the contrary.
On a final note, by using expectations over any other method of figuring out blood colour, I did find that my friend group shifted to having more lowbloods rather than how spread out (or even towards having more highbloods) we were before. This suits how in Alternia there are more lowbloods than highbloods. Obviously, I haven’t tested to see if this is consistent, but it was interesting to see.
I hope this helps and feel free to ask me more questions! ^^
