this is the most Old Person Post i'm ever gonna make i think but i actually don't think a ship stops being interesting once they get together. in the hands of a good writer, domesticity and navigating a relationship can be just as fun to witness.

The Office's Jim and Pam (my bones creak, my back breaks, i grow even Older) infamously became a meme unto themselves once the pining ended and their tenure together began because it all just got so boring and shitty. BUT. that's because they weren't really their own characters. their whole thing was built on each other. don't do that and suddenly it's fascinating to see two dumb little fuckers trying to buy a house. you know what i mean

Did you know they did that scene in one take? Yeah the actor just went up and did it and they didn't even have to rehearse the lines or anything! In fact they didn't use the original lines at all, the actor ad-libbed the whole thing on the spot, drawing inspiration directly from their life experience, and they kept it in the movie! It was incredible, the actor wasn't even acting, they just dropped all pretense and started talking tearfully and or angrily about someone they loved and or had wronged them and when they were done all of the staff were also crying! No for real that scene wasn't even planned for the movie-- and the actor didn't even know they'd started filming, it was so raw and from the heart! In fact, the actor didn't even know they were DOING a movie, the director had set up a salt lick in the middle of the woods and had the camera man hide in the bushes so they could capture the actor doing what they do best: not acting in any way, doing nothing deliberately, randomly going off script, pretending to fly off the handle and throw shit at their co workers to elicit a "real" reaction, ruining takes with outbursts of emotion, and disrespecting the director, the other actors, and everybody on set by wasting their time and making shit up as they go along! Yeah bro that actor never had any training at all and they didn't even audition-- they'd been sleeping in a supply closet and fell out onto the floor when someone went to get paint! And then the director, who is the only person who makes decisions on the project besides the actors who just do whatever, decided that actor was PERFECT for the part, and then the actor said they would do it for free and--

Is this inspired by way too recent events? Inspired by fandom bullshittery? Inspired by personal events? Inspired by extreme concern about the media literacy and knowledge of history over all of humanity?

Brother I wish it wasn't everything all at once.

This might be seen as an advert of sorts, but I implore you, start reading. Both your offline and online worldview would change for the better, and above all things, keep an open heart.

The world will change, people will change, you will change. There is no permanent state of anything. Change is coming, it is inevitable, even if you accept it with open arms or reject it from the bottom of your heart. But what you can do is build communities, strengthen relationships, and seek self-improvement.

The world can and will suck, immensely so, but a shared sorrow is half a sorrow, while a shared joy is double joy. Humanity will prevail, generations will live on, and humans are guaranteed to make the same mistakes time and time again. Don't let it close your heart and mind, but learn from it.

Am I talking about interacting with family with different views and opinions? Or am I talking about the drastic political changes lately? Or a simple squabble in fandom spaces that has participants stressing for no reason?

Well, whatever applies, really. Our greatest tool is our mind, while our strongest drive is our heart.

Use them wisely.

One more reason why Pillowfort>>>>Tumblr is that you can actually send private messages to people and it's a) not a forced real-time chat and b) it can't be published by the recipient accidentally, out of ignorance or out of malice, the way it is with Tumblr's shitty asks. Sure, a malicious bitch can always take screenshots on PF just like everywhere else, but PF's PM system is more idiot-proof than the ask. I mean, due to the publishing being the default form of replying, I have accidentally published asks myself, and deleted them immediately (because I have some social skills and morals, thank you, even if I hate how that loses the message forever). But that really should not be the default; especially when the Internet is full of socially and technologically inept types, or just innocents, who just don't get why someone might want to keep a conversation (even a perfectly simple one) private, or are just klutzy from time to time. The sender should be allowed to decide the privacy level of their communications--that's just such a fucking no-brainer that I am groaning at even having to say that! Tumblr really was and is built by and for socially sparkly American dudes who have no understanding of why privacy and curating one's Internetting might be necessary, and as such, it isn't at all ideal to everyone else.

Anyway. On Pillowfort, PMs are not publishable. Posts can be made non-rebloggable. And followers only and whatnot. And filtering and blacklisting are built in. It's not perfect, but it's way, way better than Tumblr is right now. Do come on over; I have free invites.
