We are strong women... Women of strength! We will never let the flame of our letters burn out! WE ARE DISTINGUISHED!! Happy oh so sweet 16 to the best sisterhood out there! #SigmaSigmaRho #SigSigRho #16yeard
Launch of buddy program!
We are a chapter that takes pride in the level of sisterhood we share. We make an attempt to be friends with sisters across different classes and, oftentimes, are best friends at MSU are actually in the sorority.
However, with as many as 25 girls who have crossed here over the past three years, some sisters just aren’t as close as others. To make sure everyone is getting to know each other, the “buddy system” has been implemented this semester.
Basically, the buddy system pushes sisters who wouldn’t normally hang out casually to get know each other.
Komal, our president, used an online randomizing tool to match up sisters.
Here are the first week’s matches:
Niki-Deepa
Akshaya-Ankita
Sakshi-Ramya
Priya-Amina
Manisha-Jasleen
Arathi-Meghna
Divya-Komal-Sam
Spandana-Anya
Personally, I thought the system was a great success! My date, Spandana, and I went on a simple dinner date to Chipotle. It might not seem that exciting but the buildup to actually going and then being able to carry out a date was awesome. We also really got to know each other pretty well. I found out facts about her personal life and I told her a lot about what I do, my aspirations etc. Now Spandana and I have that “buddy bond” whenever we see each other and it’s really cute.
That “buddy bond” kind of hit our chapter like a fever because I actually started seeing so many posts on social media with people getting closer to their buddies.
I know I’m not the only one who considered the buddy date to be a success. Two sisters, Niki and Deepa, are actually polar opposite personalities. Though they thought their date might be a little awkward, it turned out to be an awesome experience for both of them.
“We both are very different personalities,” Niki said. “However, we found things that were similar between us.”
It’s only the beginning of this pilot program, but I’m pumped to see where it goes. Changes we’ve implemented for the future buddy pairings is that you keep your buddy for two weeks instead of just one.
