I have finally finished my first genuine attempt at designing my Sidestep's tattoos! And because he's a good little tech thief, he's going to use that regenerator to go through the lengthy process of flaying his flesh to remove those tats i just spent so long making for him. He gets some buyer's remorse very quickly after when all the other scars and the (sometimes even positive) memories they hold are gone too, but once the body hair starts to fill in and he develops some more freckles, he starts to feel better about his decision. It's nice being able to pass as a real human in his (newly uncovered) bathroom mirror and not have to wear layers in the Los Diablos summer.

Also while i'm here, some headcanons on Re-Gene designations:

The first part of the designation is the class of Re-Gene. We know of MBO and SCO obviously. Both of those O's stand for operative, so if we want to keep each one two letters, they could easily switch to MB or SC.

I believe Chen can mention to a trans Sidestep that their designation included a sex marker, and because cuckoos are purposefully the only gendered Re-Genes, i could see the F or M (CF or CM, cuckoo female or male) being part of their "class" of Re-Gene similar to how combat units are divided into MBOs and SCOs. Though the distinction is not as pronounced as with the combat units, there will sometimes be missions where one sex will be able to blend in or play a certain role better than the other.

If a Re-Gene is initially given one designation and then later re-assigned to stay permanently at the Farm for one reason or another (such as Sidestep becoming a full-time test subject rather than being reinstated among the cuckoos after recapture), they would keep their original designation, but if some Re-Genes are assigned to be permanently on-site from the start, they would have to have their own two letter code. I'm personally partial to FA (Farm apparatus)(bonus points for reminding me of FFA), but OS (on-site) could work as well.

After the first dash is a letter or letters indicating the nature of the Re-Gene's boost followed by the date of their decanting. After the second dash is a number indicating which of their batch they were.

I was considering changing Silas's hair to be chin length in Rebirth, so then, when i was drawing my character for an upcoming VtM game (who happens to be based on Silas), i realized i could multipurpose this piece to get both characters in one ✨️
