We had a new session of Portland by night recently and spent it meeting Parsifal’s vampire dad polycule by video call, getting mildly threatened by them, learning what bardo is and also that Parsifal’s sire was real actual Galahad

Trigger warning of being homeless and shelter life

Coping mechanism, pattern recognition, escapism; call it what you want but the overlaps between being a Thinblood from VTM and being homeless have a wide girth.

Walking around in the day, even tho it might hurt; recognizing and silently acknowledging others without actually speaking to one another; these are just a couple of things that happen when you've been in a shelter for a while. Taking showers, doing laundry, keeping up the appearance of NOT being homeless all-the-while trying not to lose your mind with the presense of 40+ others getting into boundary arguments about whose stuff is where and accusations of theft sometimes at the detriment of a good night's sleep; is the daily occurance of my life.

6 months in this economy is too short and yet it feels like forever.

Being self aware that I am homeless but constantly remind myself to *not mention* it is such a weird liminal space. I'm usually rather honest, to a fault at times, about such things in my life. Perhaps that's the 'tism rift that weirds people out, but I feel like it's a fundamental factor in social situations as the alternative of not knowing puts me in awkward positions.

All the while I have Gabe from Private Nightmares in my head.

Last episode he talks about "going back". The idea that thinbloods might be the few lucky vampires or kindred that 'could' go back to being human. Gabe spoke with Naomi on the subject near the ending, purposing they look for a way. In game mechanics, I don't see why not. Mostly because if they are considered a half-hybrid of vampire and human where diablorie could grant them full vampire status, why not have a way to also grant them full human status?

But metaphorically, I'm also looking for "a way back".

Trying to not slip further into homelessness where even the shelter kicks me on the street or gutter. And I am SO CLOSE, to returning to a reglular life as well, so long as I can maneuver getting a job with my condition as is. But that's the thing isn't it, the masquerade. So long as you can maneuver around the humans and pretend nothing has changed, that you're not all that different from them, you can do anything. But you also have to work around Vampires in the night, the predators who, with one wrong move will wipe you out. One wrong move in this shelter and I'm out.

This is, I think, the first time one of my characters in VtM has had a mentor 🙏

A year ago, Am moved to San Francisco, where Thierry (whom she quickly nicknamed "Rory") took her under his wing. Their relationship is informal and built on trust - more like the dynamic between an older brother and a younger sister than between a mentor and his charge

Thierry serves as the Scourge of the Camarilla and is plummeting down the Humanity scale. In fact, Am's Dementation is the very reason he took her under his care - so that, should the need arise, she could quiet his inner Beast if it ever broke loose
