Time for the Youth to Rise
The youth of today will bear the consequences for actions taken by previous generations. The kids and young adults of this world will be forced to deal with the impacts of excessive use of fossil fuels. The world’s long reliance on cheap, dirty sources of energy like coal and oil has polluted our world and significantly altered our environment. We have known for decades that we were traveling down a destructive path. However for a wide range of reasons, unintentional all the way to sinister, the majority of the world has taken the path of inaction.
Climate change is happening now, and many parts of the world are already feeling the effects. July 2015 was the hottest month in recorded history, a trend that is just getting started. Droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, powerful storms, sea level rise, fresh water disruptions, food shortages and other devastating events are just beginning to unfold.
The older generations will have to deal with the initial effects of climate change. Yet the most destructive impacts are going to hit the youth of today the hardest. If we do not act quickly and boldly, the younger generations on this planet will face the most vicious effects of human created climate change.
The youth of today have the most to lose if we do not act. It is not fair that they will inherit this mess, but inherit it they will. It is absolutely crucial that generations X, Y and Z stand up and fight against climate change. The earth you have inherited is damaged, but not beyond repair. Make yourself heard. Use your voice. Do not give up the fight. There are thousands of young individuals already taking up the fight. Join the movement.
