People must accept that the men with the best makeup were the silent actors. Like, John Barrymore’s tragic Egyptian prince eyeliner? Harold Lloyd’s lipstick? Rudolph Valentino’s eyeshadow? And the best part is that, due to the polychromatic and somewhat blurry nature of the silent films, the average spectator cannot catch that at a first glance and they just sat during the movie thinking “wow, this guy has such haunting eyes”.
