Lady of The Day 🌹 Olive Thomas ❤️
On August 19, 1931 Prince and Princess Takamatsu of Japan visited the MGM Studios during a tour of the United States. MGM studio chief Louis B. Mayer (far left) and his first wife, Margaret Shenberg (seated middle), hosted the imperial couple on the MGM studio lot in Culver City to showcase Hollywood’s filmmaking operations. Mayer paraded Buster in front of the Japanese delegation to perform a canned, staged scene from Sidewalks of New York.
Buster resented being trotted out as studio publicity material and when told in the fall of 1932 that he would have to attend a rally in support of the reelection of Republican president Herbert Hoover, had told Mayer he had other plans to attend a baseball game, Mayer told him he had to attend but Buster decided to attend the baseball game instead.
