William Wellman’s WINGS premiered in New York City #OnThisDay in 1927. Starring Clara Bow, Charles "Buddy" Rogers, and Richard Arlen with a Gary Cooper chaser, WINGS won the very first Academy Award for Best Picture (then called Best Production) at the 1929 ceremony.
