its been months and i have new people here(well really any people at all, i didnt have anyone following in the beginning months i would be addressing these posts to no one but i knew it was all for the people who would see them eventually) but i wanted to rexplain for the new people(again everyone) how this all started and why i did what i did
i mess around with special effects makeup and soft silicone for prosthetics or props and fake organs and so i know a good bit about what soft packers and breast forms are made of and because of that what you want to look for in your soft prosthetics like packers and breast forms and also how to adhere them(thats the main thing i know the most about and originally why this blog was made, i branched out a bit but this is still my main specialty. but i do have memory issues so while i know a lot about this topic i dont always remember it all thats why i write so much so i can always look back and remember)
i have a massive post explaining why i recommend the packers i reccomend but i dont think ive gone into adhesive on recent masterlist or on my blog since about april so ill explain again and maybe stick this on the masterlist
because packers and breast forms are made of silicone they need silicone adhesive, usually something like pros aid is what people recommend but pros aid doesnt stay on for a fulll long day its meant to loose its grip over time so its easy to take off after like eight ish hours thats great for special effects prosthetics but not for things like packers or breast forms someones packer or breast slipping off in the middle of something is kind of everyones worst nightmare
so instead i recommended originally ten aces its what i saw online and when i tested it it worked, also its a spray which makes for easier application and it was way cheaper then the little adhesive bottles made for sfx make up so i figured cheaper and spray bottle was a good option
but then i found something better, it lasts longer, its safe to spray directly on skin, the fumes arent as bad, and its cheaper for more product, skinster medical adhesive. i tested it and it worked better. before i continue i want to cut in and explain, ten aces and and skinster are made for catheters and other medical equipment along with wigs this will come up again later.
so the new spray was great it and its adhesive remover were cheap and more product for money, skin safe, and loads of other pros but it was still a mess to apply and it took time to dry. something that sprays adhesive just by nature is going to get everywhere, i used to have to prep my entire bathroom counter with a layer of paper towels and open all the doors, get the gloves and mask and safety glasses and cover everything i didnt want sticking in Vaseline(a trick i learned only after months of testing) and even then there was this residue left on everything including the prosthetic i couldn't really ever fully get out. on top of that who was really realistically going to be able to get this stuff? even the cheaper option was still expensive, it was a completely mess to use and it took so much time. theres no way you could use this without getting caught either what kind of excuse does the average person have to buy medical grade silicone adhesive? and safety glasses, a mask, latex gloves, Vaseline, thats alot of things to buy, and if you already have people on your ass youre going to get even more flak for wanting to buy these things. besides the glue made fumes meaning youd have to have all your doors open and the fan on or go outside to even use it and it takes five minutes to dry and thats only if you do one layer. Someone is going to get caught, someone is going to try this and their family or roommate is going to walk by and see the open door or window and see the prosthetic and safety gear and that person will get caught. i need a better option.
so i started looking for alternatives, and i didnt find any theres breast form tape but thats expensive there isnt a lot per package and its hard to get your hands on. now were circling back to the wig thing, i looked it up after a while and the reason silicone adhesive works on wigs is because sometimes the wigs have silicone in them and even when they dont its a good strong skin safe adhesive. then i remembered wig tape, if wigs used silicone adhesive then the adhesive in the wig tape might be silicone adhesive, i checked and it was. i checked where to buy it, you can get it almost anywhere where i live because wearing wigs is so common, i checked how much it was per roll, its cheap, way cheaper then breast form tape or fashion tape or the spray adhesives and more per roll. because its not a glue theres no fumes or safety gear needed and you dont need to prep your surface or air your room out(making you less likely to be outed) i tested it, it works it even has a stronger hold then the glue. i added it to my list.
of course besides all this i was doing strength tests time tests and more tests between all the adhesives thats why i can come on here and tell you what works best, whats mess free, whats most comfortable, whats less of a skin irritant. and the wig tape really is the winner, let me explain, just to start you need a adhesvie remover to get the glue to unstick and thats not even counting the layer of glue left on your body, it gets in your body hair and sticks to your skin even if you clean it off the way youre supposed too sometimes it dosnt all come off and its really hard to tell how much you have on you once you reach the point of already washing off, is it residue? or is it actually the glue? is it on your hands or your skin? its not impossible to manage but it is a mess and it takes up a lot of time and patience and energy. if you dont get the adhesive off your body traps sweat and skin cells under it and youll break out under the glue, its true the glue will eventually deteriorate away within a couple days so its not a issue but the break outs are a issue. youre going to be using this stuff to pack and for breast forms your pelvis and stomach, and your chest is the last place you want break outs.
but with the tape the adhesive stays on the tape so when you peel it off when youre done with it you get some residue on you but its not layers of adhesvie stuck onto you and youre less likely to break out. and like i said before because its not glue theres no fumes or drying times you just cut the tape put it on the prosthetic trim the edhes peel the paper off the other side of the tape and stick it on (after youve already prepped your area of course) thats much cleaner, easier, and safer application and removal. and its cheaper, easier to find, more prodcut per money. it really is just the best solution i could find and im really proud of it, it took a really long time to put together theres the testing the past half year but also the research ive been doing since around since like 2018 that lead up to all this in the first place
